Just random stuff today.

I rode the shuttle to work today for the first time. It was interesting. I parked at UTC. By the time we were at the 4th stop, the shuttle was *PACKED*. We were like sardines in there. So I noticed the chick sitting in front of me. She was Islamic and had that whole head wrapped in a scarf deal goin' on. At one point she adjusted it a little and I could tell how tight it was. I got to wondering - how on earth did she get that thing on her head so tight? I mean, just looking casually, it didn't look so tight, but the more you look at it, you can see that it is. I watched her get off the shuttle (and it's windy and raining today), and there she went, not a care in the world and her scarf didn't budge. That thing would have blown off my head in 2 seconds. Fascinating.

Now for my 2nd shuttle story. Good thing I rode the shuttle today or you guys would be reading more inspirational quotes. Sitting there in the UTC parking lot on the shuttle was me, two other riders and the driver. I see a handicapped girl in an electric wheelchair coming towards the shuttle. She's covered in one of those bright blue tarp things.....like you would put over wood or something to keep the rain out. She has a hole cut in it for her head and she's got her feet wrapped up in a white plastic sack to keep her feet dry. No, I'm not kidding about any of this. Suddenly she stops for no apparent reason. It seems there is something wrong with the wheelchair because she moves forward a little and then back again. This continues for a few minutes and the shuttle driver continues to wait for her. Then it all becomes clear. Her tarp...or um, er, well..."rain coat" is stuck in the wheel. I look at the driver and he's not looking now. I look around and the two other people on the shuttle are not looking like they are in a helpful mood. You guessed it, I was going to be the one to help her. BUT....just as I was about to get up, a guy pulls up and he's right there helping her as soon as he is out of the car. She had that tarp stuck in that wheel really good. He even went to his car for a took kit. They both missed the shuttle because the driver couldn't wait any longer. I know this is evil of me, but I'm soooo glad that guy helped her. I would have missed the shuttle, got all wet, and if he was having trouble getting the tarp out of the wheel, I know I would have twice the trouble....and I have no tool kit in my car. Get ready, because I'm about to be evil again. You know, this whole thing could have been avoided if she had opted for a better rain coat. I mean, this tarp getup looks really bad and wasn't a very good idea. And the plastic sack on the feet? I guess I just think if I were handicaped, I'd surf the internet for a rain coat and rain boots.

Last thing....non shuttle related. Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson's father, is now on mind numbing drugs. He says Michael's TV interview sent him over the edge. He's deeply ashamed of his son. Poor guy. If I were him, I would have been on mind numbing drugs ages ago!

Okay, have a good day and be thankful you don't have to wear a tarp for a rain coat.
