A Cat's Tail...er, Tale One Litter Maid mega sized self cleaning litter box: $200 Twenty pound container of clumping cat litter: $10 Having a Litter Maid litter box that doesn't break every six months would be: Priceless - About 4 years ago Greg and I bought a Litter Maid ~ we were terrible about cleaning the litter box. With two cats, there was a lot of cleaning to be done. This self cleaning litter box was a godsend. I honestly cannot imagine how we lived without it all those years before. Then came Suzie, our third cat, and had we not had the Litter Maid, scooping would have been a full time job. Then one sad day, our ever faithful Litter Maid bit the dust. It had worked perfectly for about 2.5 years. We replaced it with a brand new one and expected to be just as happy with it for another 2.5 years. Not so. It was defective. There is a sensor in the litter box that detects motion. It sets a 10 minute timer when motion is detected and then an electric rake combs thru the litter and dumps anything it picks up into a bin. If it detects motion after the 10 minute timer has started, it will reset and run 10 minutes later...it keeps doing this until it can finally rake with no cat in the box. Well it wasn't doing that. One cat would go in and take care of business, the next would come along and be in the middle of taking care of business and the rake would start! Not a good thing to get raked when taking care of business. So we sent it back and got a new one. About 5 months later, same thing happened. So, keeping the faith, we called and got a replacement thinking it was just really bad luck to get two that were defective. Wednesday our third replacement broke, tho it was a different problem this time. The electric rake broke. This replacement lasted longer....about 8 months. Another replacement is on it's way. If the one we get breaks.....no, no, I'm thinking positive! This one will not break! In the meantime, I'm back on scooping duty :-( posted by Kitty Friday, August 22, 2003
