Headlines.... Man fishing in Galveston Bay finds torso in a suitcase except from story: HOUSTON – A man fishing in Galveston Bay found a torso inside a suitcase floating in the water shortly before he spotted a plastic bag that contained a head, authorities said. The body parts were discovered Sunday, about a mile from where another headless torso was discovered two years ago in a widely publicized case involving New York real estate heir Robert Durst, authorities said. Durst was tried for murder and was acquitted of the charge last month. Me says: Please Lord, do not let me ever find body parts.... *-*-*-* Northeast digs out after season's first major snowstorm except: BOSTON – Some schools stayed closed Monday morning and airlines struggled to catch up as the Northeast plowed out after the powerful weekend snowstorm that piled snow nearly 4 feet deep in places. Thirteen deaths were linked to the storm. *-*-*-* Divisive return of 'Battlestar Galactica' excerpt: LOS ANGELES, California -- "Battlestar Galactica" is returning as a four-hour miniseries, backed by hype befitting a science fiction classic in the same galaxy as "Star Wars" or "Star Trek." Never mind that this classic was a campy space opera that lasted just one season. When it premiered on ABC in 1978, the special-effects dazzler was the most highly publicized new series of that season. Lorne Greene starred as Adama, the commander of a ragtag band of refugees in search of a lost planet called Earth after a band of robotic Cylons wiped out much of humankind. In the new version, airing Monday and Tuesday on the Sci Fi Channel (9 p.m. EST), Edward James Olmos takes over as Adama; Jamie Bamber is his son, Apollo (originally played by Richard Hatch); and the hotheaded pilot, Starbuck, is now a woman, played by Katee Sackhoff (Dirk Benedict was the original). While the original series' thematic core remains -- the human struggle for survival -- a lot has changed. ******* Totally off the headline topic..... I will leave you all with this today. Look back over the year and think about your actions and attitude. Were they good and kind? Did you help those around you when you could? Did you speak kindly of the people you know? Be honest.... Many of us forget the not so nice things we've done, yet can clearly remember all the kind things we've done for others. Our memory is funny that way. But could it be that the not so nice things outweigh the kind things? Again, be honest.... I watched "A Christmas Carol" over the weekend and there is one part of that movie that always gets to me. It's when Jacob Marley's ghost visits Scrooge. He tells him that if you are not a good person in life, your spirit is condemned after death and is doomed to wander through the world and witness what it cannot share, but might have shared while on earth. Who knows if this really happens...we will all find out someday. But it really makes you think....well, makes me think. -- A quote from the movie: "I wear the iron chain I forged in life. I earned it link by link, yard by yard. It's a ponderous chain. Do you know the length and weight of the strong chain you bare?" Jabob's ghost asked. Scrooge glanced around him on the floor, in the expectation of finding himself surrounded by a heavy iron chain: but could see nothing. "It was as long and as heavy as mine 7 Christmas Eves ago. You have labored on it since, Ebenezer...." said Jacob's ghost. -- I believe it's important to try to keep the Christmas spirit in your heart all year long. Be kind and generous. Keep that iron chain in mind all year long. posted by Kitty Monday, December 08, 2003
