Dutch burglar caught snacking on job

AMSTERDAM - A hungry Dutch burglar was caught frying a fish on the job after the smell of his cooking woke up the householder, police say.

"The man was casually frying up a fish. The householder who was asleep in the attic was woken up by the smell. When she went to investigate she found the man standing at the oven," Marieke Schoneveld, a police spokeswoman, said.

The 45-year-old intruder, who had also smoked a cigarette, told police he had a penchant for fish and had taken a cold beer from the fridge to complement his meal. He had loaded up his bag with other drinks, but had not stolen anything else.

"It doesn't happen very often that a burglar's only motive is food," Schoneveld said.

Woman to file suit claiming she was caught on tape in dressing room

NEW YORK (AP) _ A woman who says she was videotaped in a dressing room at Bloomingdale's department store will file a lawsuit against the store this week.
Carol Ketover, 60, will seek unspecified damages in the suit, to be filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, said her lawyer Sanford Rubenstein.

Ketover, a semiretired real estate broker, says she was inside a dressing room at the store Feb. 17 when she noticed a video monitor behind several shopping bags. She saw her partly nude body in the monitor and heard laughter coming from outside the room, she said.

Ketover put her clothes back on and ran out of the room humiliated, she said.
Bloomingdale's spokeswoman Anne Keating said NBC's "Today" show had been taping at the store that day and had temporarily stored a monitor and camera in the dressing room.

"A mistake was made," she told The Daily News for Sunday editions. "We should have put a sign on the dressing room that it was closed. But the producer told me that the camera would only be working if someone was operating it."

Kangaroo Attacks Woman in Her Garden

BRISBANE, Australia - A kangaroo viciously attacked a woman Tuesday as she picked roses outside her home on the edge of Australia's third-largest city, a report said.

Sylvia Aldren was working in the garden of her home in the northern outskirts of Brisbane when the large kangaroo pushed her to the ground and then kicked, bit and scratched her, Nine Network television said.

Aldren said she sensed trouble when she noticed a few kangaroos nearby and one approached her.

"The look in the kangaroo's eye made me feel that I knew I was in trouble," she said. "I thought this is it, he's going to kill me."

Aldren was taken to a hospital with injuries to her chest, thighs, arms and legs, the report said.

Neighbors said they have been terrorized in recent years by a mob of around 50 kangaroos that live in a nearby area.

The government estimates there are 60 million kangaroos in Australia. Most live in the Outback and rarely attack humans.
