Welcome to my blog. In the internet world, I am a
little part that exists. Here you'll find recipes, rants, a few history lessons, and general silliness.
I organized mine this morning and followed their rules. By the time I was done, I had a big pile of clothes that had to go. You should do the same ~ it felt really good to have the extra space in my closet!
Here are their rules:
1. Create three piles: "yes," "no" and "maybe." Jesse says you have to "learn how to let things go back out into the universe. It's the circle of life."
2. To make these three piles, ask these three questions about each piece of clothing: Do I love this? Is it flattering? Is this the image that I want to portray? If any answers are "no," then it belongs in the "no" pile.
3. After making your three piles, understand that are three possible actions. Obviously, you'll keep the "yes" pile and get rid of the "no" pile. In the "maybe" pile, consider creating what Jesse and Joe call an archive. Jesse says this option is for old clothes that you likely will no longer wear, but have sentimental value. Jesse and Joe recommend storing archival items in an attic or basement—but not in your closet.
4. When you buy something new, something old has to go to make room for it.
It really works. The "Do I love this? Is it flattering? Is this the image that I want to portray?" questions really help you evaluate what you have. The clothes you have might be really nice, but that doesn't always mean they are right for you.
Oprah also cleaned out her closet. That woman has some NICE clothes....and LOT'S of clothes! She's having an eBay charity auction for the next 10 days. It started today. This is just a tiny portion of her closet...I think she said she had over 1000 pieces of clothing she got rid of. I can only dream of having a closet like hers filled to the gills with beautiful things.
