Dodge BallNow does that really sound like the name of a game people should be playing?I hated playing dodge ball when I was in elementary school. The teacher would announce we'd get to go out and play a game of dodge ball and all the kids cheered....except me. Why on earth would a teacher think it's a good idea to take a room full of kids who have been pent up all afternoon minding their P's and Q's out for a friendly game of dodge ball? These kids are ready to let loose and take all their aggression and energry out on their classmates with a basket ball! Yes, we always used a basket ball.I have a very vivid memory of being dressed in a baby blue sweater set with flowers embroidered all over it, a skirt, white tights, and little white shoes....waiting to be nailed with a basket ball. I would have liked to play jacks or something...not dodge ball.I also remember having to play softball. Hated that, too. Nothing like a hard little ball coming 30mph right at you. I always ducked....you can imagine the grief I got for that from the other kids. Plus, I was always picked last for teams because everyone knew I was scared to catch the ball. So that was a fun thing to live thru as a kid. I was never an athlete....and never will be. I liked to paint and doodle. Science projects always interested me, too. I liked looking stuff up in the encyclopedia and then writing a report on my findings. Indoor stuff was my game....except math. Hate math. But everything else was cool. Especially art. Seems my artwork always made it up on the wall for display along with a few others. It was cool to look up at the wall during the math lecture and see my artwork there. Elbow on the desk, chin planted in the palm of my hand gazing at the art on the wall while teacher drilled on and on about long division. Was never good at long division....can't imagine why.--- posted by Kitty Wednesday, April 06, 2005
