TGIF

An update from yesterday ~ oddly enough, as soon as I got to work my day improved. Nothing happened this morning....oh, except for when I sliced my pinkie finger open and bled for 10 minutes! But other than that, nothing very exciting....

***

I just had to post this story.

Severed Penis Retrieved from Toilet, Reattached

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - A 44-year-old Anchorage man had his penis surgically reattached after it was cut off by an angry girlfriend and flushed down a toilet, local police said on Sunday.

The events unfolded about midnight on Saturday, after the pair had been arguing over an impending breakup, an Anchorage Police Department statement said. At some point, the two decided to have sex and the man agreed to let the woman tie his arms to a windowsill.

But the woman used a kitchen knife to amputate her partner's penis and flushed it down the toilet, police said. She untied the man, drove him to a local hospital and was cleaning up the bloody scene when police arrived at the home, according to the statement.

Summoned by the police, workers from the local water utility pulled the toilet up from the floor and were able to recover the severed penis, which was rushed to the hospital for the successful reattachment surgery on Sunday morning.

Police declined to identify the victim, but said his assailant was 35-year-old Kim Tran. She was charged with assault, domestic violence and tampering with evidence, and jailed without bail.

Black Cloud Above

First, at 3am, we hear devil cat (Calvin ~ for those who don't know the devil cat) go plowing down the hall at top speed....then there was a crash.  Greg goes out to find the laptop sitting precariously on one of the kitchen chairs.  He had somehow managed to knock it off the kitchen table.  I have no idea what he did....but he is lucky it wasn't in pieces on the floor. He'd be at kitty auschwitz right now if had been.  Then, at 7am, the stove caught on fire.  I'm takin' flames people.  Thank God I had baking soda to put it out.  Then, at 8:15am, I dropped my freshly washed pink sweater on the muddy patio floor....had to find something else to wear. Then, at 8:35, it took me 30 minutes to locate my car keys.

What else will happen today??

Signs you have grown up:

Your house plants are alive and you can't smoke any of them.
Having sex in a twin bed is out of the question.
You keep more food than beer in the fridge.
6:00 am is when you get up, not when you go to bed.
You hear your favorite song in the elevator.
You watch the Weather Channel.
Your friends marry and divorce instead of "hook up" and "break up".
Jeans and a sweater no longer qualify as "dressed up".
You're the one calling the police because those f*$#*! kids next door don't turn down the stereo.
You don't know what time Taco Bell closes anymore.
Your car insurance goes down, and your car payments go up.
You feed your dog Science Diet instead of fast food leftovers.
Sleeping on the couch makes your back hurt.
You take naps from noon to 6pm.
Eating a basket of chicken wings at 3am would severely upset, rather than settle, your stomach.
You go to the drugstore for ibuprofen and antacid, not condoms and pregnancy tests.
A $4.00 bottle of wine is no longer "pretty good stuff".
You actually eat breakfast food at breakfast time.
"I just can't drink the way I used to" replaces "I'm never going to drink that much again".
90% of the time you spend in front of the computer is for real work.
You read this entire list looking desperately for one sign that doesn't apply to you and can't find one to save your sorry old butt.

Blonde Joke

Three women - one German, one Japanese and a blonde were sitting in a sauna. Suddenly there was a beeping sound.

The German woman pressed her forearm and the beep stopped. The two other women looked questioningly at her.

"That was my pager," she said. "I have a microchip under the skin of my arm."

A few minutes later, a phone rang. The Japanese woman lifted her palm to her ear.

When she finished, she explained. "That was my cell phone. It's been implanted in my hand."

The blonde woman felt decidedly low tech. Not to be outdone, she decided she had to do something just as impressive. Stepping out of the sauna, she went to the bathroom. When she returned, she dropped her towel to show she had a piece of toilet paper hanging from her behind.

The German and Japanese woman raised their eyebrows at her.

"Lord thunderin', will you look at that. I'm gettin' a fax!"

Crayon Freak

This was posted on a Korean news site. Annie must be like our Ann Landers.

--

Dear Annie: I am a 35-year-old woman with four children, an advanced degree and no serious health problems, but I have compulsively and secretly been eating crayons for months. I don't mean chewing on a crayon here and there. I mean eating an entire 64-count box, and doing it several times a week. I can't stop, and I don't know why I'm doing this.

I am too embarrassed to tell my doctor, because I know he'll think I am crazy. The box says the crayons are non-toxic, but I'm really eating a lot of them. And this is a really dumb question, but are they fattening? Why am I doing this? Am I crazy? Please help. -- Crayon Freak

Dear Crayon Freak: We have no idea how many calories are in a 64-count box of crayons, but that's the least of your worries. You may have pica, a disease that involves eating non-food substances (dirt is the most common). Pica is usually caused by a nutritional deficiency, often iron or zinc, and it can sometimes occur during pregnancy. There is apparently something about the contents or texture of crayons that you crave.

While crayons are considered non-toxic, they are not intended to be eaten, especially in such large quantities. You are not crazy, but you do need to see your doctor and ask to be tested. Don't wait until you finish the next box.

And you thought you had problems?

The History of Valentine's Day

First, Happy Valentine's Day to all my bloggies ;)

Every February, across the country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? The history of Valentine's Day -- and its patron saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.

One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.

According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.

May Saint Valentine touch you all in one way or another today!

What Is Ash Wednesday?

Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent for Western Christian churches. It's a day of penitence to clean the soul before the Lent fast. Roman Catholic, Anglican, and some other churches hold special services at which worshippers are marked with ashes as a symbol of death, and sorrow for sin.

Ash Wednesday services
The service draws on the ancient Biblical traditions of covering one's head with ashes, wearing sackcloth, and fasting.

The mark of ashes
In Ash Wednesday services churchgoers are marked on the forehead with a cross of ashes as a sign of penitence and mortality.

"The use of ashes, made by burning palm crosses from the previous Palm Sunday, is very symbolic. God our Father, you create us from the dust of the earth."

Grant that these ashes may be for us a sign of our penitence, and a symbol of our mortality. The minister or priest marks each worshipper on the forhead, and says remember you are dust and unto dust you shall return, or a similar phrase based on God's sentence on Adam in Genesis 3:19.

The modern practice in Roman Catholic churches nowadays, as the ashes are being administered, is for the priest to say something like Turn away from sin and believe the gospel.

Keeping the mark
At some churches the worshippers leave with the mark still on their forehead so that they carry the sign of the cross out into the world. At other churches the service ends with the ashes being washed off as a sign that the participants have been cleansed of their sins.

Symbolism of the ashes
The marking of their forehead with a cross made of ashes reminds each churchgoer that:

Death comes to everyone

They should be sad for their sins

They must change themselves for the better

God made the first human being by breathing life into dust, and without God, human beings are nothing more than dust and ashes

It's also a reminder of the mark of the cross made at baptism

The phrase often used when the ashes are administered reminds Christians of the doctrine of original sin.

The cross of ashes may symbolise the way Christ's sacrifice on the cross as atonement for sin replaces the Old Testament tradition of making burnt offerings to atone for sin.

Where the ashes come from
The ashes used on Ash Wednesday are made by burning the palm crosses that were blessed on the previous Palm Sunday. Ashes can also be bought from Church suppliers.

Ashes and oil
The ash is sometimes mixed with anointing oil, which makes sure that the ashes make a good mark. The use of anointing oil also reminds the churchgoer of God’s blessings and of the anointing that took place at their baptism.

From Palm Sunday to Ash Wednesday
Palm Sunday celebrates Jesus's triumphant entry into Jerusalem, so when the crosses used in the Palm Sunday service are converted to ashes, the worshippers are reminded that defeat and crucifixion swiftly followed triumph. But using the ashes to mark the cross on the believer's forehead symbolises that through Christ's death and resurrection, all Christians can be free from sin.

More Ideas

Still time left for you to order a great Valentine gift....or an anytime gift!

Vermont Teddy Bears

This is too cute!

And now....here is what not to give.

I cannot think of a bigger waste of money than the star registry. For $54+ bucks, you can name a star. This has to be one of the most stupid things I have heard of. If you are going to spend that kind of money, get your man/woman something nice! Sorry to all of you who think this is cool....I think it's a huge crock of doo doo.

Here is what mine looks like :)

So Alicia Keys is singing America The Beautiful before the Super Bowl. This sucks. My most favorite part of the game is hearing the National Anthem.....it's my favorite song. All week I've been wondering who was going to sing it and since I had not heard a word about it, I had to look it up on www.superbowl.com. Why can't they just let things be. *Sigh*.

Cursed

Before I get to today's topic, I gotta say something. The freeway was pretty backed up as me and two other cars were merging into the traffic. This guy in a trucks lets all three of us merge in...I was the last one. The guy behind him starts honking his horn, making all kinds of jesters and you just know he was yelling. Dude, it was only 3 cars! What's the big F*^%@ing deal!? He was being nice....try it sometime.

--

Alright, I'm cursed.

I think it's pretty common knowledge that I despise lizards. And I don't think despise is too strong of a word to use. And now, I'll give you some of my lizard history.

When I lived with my folks, I had a room in the garage. Every now and then a lizard would get into my room. I'd have to chase them out....or have my Dad do it. So one day I start smelling a bad oder in my room. I'm thinking it is coming from outside in the shrubs. I go out there and investigate half expecting to find a dead mouse or something. Nothing. Humm. I go back in my room and locate the area that the oder is strongest.....right next to my bed. Wonderful. So now I think there is a dead mouse under my bed. I pull my bed out look under it and in all the shoe boxes under there. All I find is dust and old pictures.....no dead mouse. I move the bed back and I still smell it. I have no idea where it's coming from. A few weeks go by and the oder getting worse. It is at this point when I realize the awful truth about the order....it is coming from my bed. I tear my bed apart and I don't find anything. I wash my sheets, flip the mattress and put the bed back together. I'm standing next to my nice clean bed, perfectly made and it smells like death. The sun was coming in the window at just the right angle so it is shining right on my pure white comforter. I go to sit on my bed and I suddenly see the outline of a lizard INSIDE MY COMFORTER. Yes, that's right....inside. It had gotten in through a small hole in the seam and got stuck in all the fiber fill and expired....croaked....died. I ran screaming.

There you have it...I was sleeping with and probably sitting on daily....a dead lizard....for about a month....maybe a little longer. *SHUDDER* This ranks pretty high on the list of bad things that have happened.

So now I have this cat who is Mr. Lizard Hunter. Calvin can catch lizards that live in the planters outside the front door. I'm not kidding. And he always seems to catch them on days when I'm alone at home. You think I exaggerate, but trust me, I'm not. This one day I was sick and he got one and brought it in my bedroom while I was sleeping. I woke up because I heard something and I looked down over the side of the bed and there he is with a foot long lizard. I do not exaggerate when I say foot long, either. And, one day Greg finds a lizard tail in the house....no lizard, just the tail. So you know what that means ~ there is a lizard somewhere in the house. I suppose it's dead by now and someday I'll find it when I'm on my hands and knees looking under something.....because that's the way this kind of thing goes. Greg finds the tail and I'll find the lizard.

So what has me telling you all this? Well, I was working on a card this morning and I opened a drawer to get some paper. I suppose it's obvious what I found. Yup....dead lizard carcass. I've been telling Greg it stinks out there and he said it was the trash can. Whatever. I know dead lizard carcass when I smell it.

Jesus Found In Frying Pan

Please note this is another "Texan" stroy.

A Texan family say they have found the image of Jesus in their frying pan.

Juan Pastrano, wife Mary-Lou and son Juan made the discovery when they went to wash up after a fry-up at their home in Prairie Lea.

Now they are keeping the pan in a sealed plastic bag while they decided what to do with it.

Two months ago a woman who discovered an image of the Virgin Mary in her toasted cheese sandwich sold it for £14,000 to casino company GoldenPalace.com.

Jewellery maker Diana Duyser, 52, was shocked when the bidding went through the roof after she offered it for sale on eBay.

Now Mrs Duyser has suggested the Texas family follow her example and offer it for sale on eBay. "I think they will be amazed how much it could sell for," she said.

Texan Held For Cutting Pacemaker From Mother's Body

A Texas man has been charged with cutting a pacemaker out of his dead mother's chest with a kitchen knife as part of a long-running dispute with a medical company. Harris County sheriff's deputies arrested James A. Donalson, 59, on Sunday after paramedics responding to the death of his mother discovered a large incision in her chest, Sergeant Bruce Williams said. "The son, her caretaker, made the comment, 'I removed the pacemaker,'" Williams said on Monday. "It's my understanding there's been some kind of ongoing dispute between the son, insurance companies and the doctor since this pacemaker was implanted in 1995."

Donalson told reporters he wanted to keep the pacemaker as evidence of possible wrongdoing by its supplier. Investigators also want it to help determine the circumstances of the woman's death. Donalson was charged with tampering with evidence, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and jailed in lieu of $5,000 (2,655 pounds) bond. He was set to appear before a judge on Tuesday morning.

Authorities ordered an autopsy but believe his mother, 85-year-old Ann Donalson, died of natural causes. Her son removed the pacemaker with a kitchen knife at their home just northwest of Houston, police said. "They killed my mother," Donalson told reporters from the back of a squad car on Sunday, apparently referring to a medical device company. Deputies had not found the pacemaker as of Monday afternoon, Williams said.
