I gotta say, my life is really okay. I don't stress out or cry all the time. I just happened upon a blog that I read from day one (back in January). It was pretty depressing. This woman has a kid, a husband, a job, and a house. These are mostly what she talks about. If it's not one thing, it's another. They are trying to potty train the kid and it (in my opinion) isn't going well. Her house is the money pit. Did you see that movie? Well, she is living in the real live money pit. This woman drinks to numb herself. I can read that between the lines. Anyway, after reading this, I realize my life is cake. Even tho sleept almost all weekend and felt like a cow, I don't live in a money pit, I don't have a kid that craps in his pants all the time, and I don't cry 5 out of 7 days! ... Now, on to what I was going to blog about. Pet Peeves. We all have them. Here's a story about one of mine. I was at Greg's softball game and low and behold of my pet peeves "poped out"....for lack of a better way to say it. This is what happened. There was a girl who was running around in those popular low-rise jeans. She's there to watch the game - not play. I will say, she's got the bod for them. This is good because that's one of my other PP's....people who wear clothes that look terrible on them. But that's a topic for another day. Okay, so all is well until "low-rise jeans girl" bends over to grab a beer out of a cooler and: "hello, look at my lime green thong as my jeans ride down and expose half my ass!". Folks, don't let this happen. Don't let the public look at your panties....espically your thong panties. I don't care how sexy thongs are - that is not cute. If you are going to wear low-rise jeans, go commando under them or buy a low-rise thong so the public isn't subjected to your thong and butt cheeks when you bend over! That's it for today - see you tomorrow. posted by Kitty Monday, March 31, 2003
I watch the cooking channel (foodTV.com) a lot. I'd say 70% of the time I'm tuned to this channel. In the morning while I'm eating my toast and having a cup of Chai, I watch East Meets West. Ming Tsai is the host of this show, and has got to be one of the most entertaining chefs to watch. He's the one who said his Mom and Grandma fight over the eyes, cheeks & tail of a fish. He's always got a story. Today I was watching him make Asian Spiced Fried Chicken - this looks sooo yummy. Anyway, he was telling this story about when he was a kid his whole family would pile in the car and go on these long road trips (his Mom packed this fried chicken to eat at rest stops). He has a big family, so the station wagon was packed. He and his brother would sit in the very back facing the car behind them. Ming recalled one trip that would have an overnight stay, so they have to take suit cases. Ming's father straps the suit cases to the top of the station wagon. Ming is sure to point out this is many years ago and back then the suit cases were made of that indestructible hard stuff. The kids suggest maybe it isn't a good idea to put the suit cases on the top of the car because the wind will rip them right off. Ming's father, an engineer, explains that the flow of air will go right over the top of them, blah, blah. So fine, the huge family packs themselves into the huge station wagon and they are off. About an hour into the trip, Ming and his brother suddenly see two Sampsonite suit cases flying, then bouncing down the highway behind the car....just like in those old Sampsonite commercials. Meanwhile, the adults are laughing and talking.... "Um Dad...." "Quite back there kids..." "But Dad...." They pull over and the suit cases are about a mile behind them. Then they see an 18 wheeler pull off and the driver gets out and runs into traffic and rescues the suit cases. Mr. Truck Driver leaves them at the side of the freeway, get back in his truck, continues on his way. Ming's Father backs up along the freeway until he gets to the suit cases. They are dirty, but otherwise look just like they did when they left home. From then on, the entire car load of them would smile and wave excitedly at every driver in an 18 wheeler they passed on the off chance it would be the guy who saved their suit cases. "Here is this car full of Chinese people waving at every truck driver on the road," Ming said laughing. He's really funny and is always telling stories like this as he's cooking. And this Asian Spiced Fried Chicken he was making looks soooo good! I'll post the recipe. So check him out on the cooking channel, he's fun to watch and has good stories :) ... Asian Spiced Fried Chicken 5 pounds mixed chicken pieces. I prefer the legs and thighs 3 cups buttermilk 2 tablespoons sambal 3 cups all purpose flour 1 cup cornmeal 1 tablespoon coarse ground black pepper corn 1 tablespoon coarse ground coriander 1 tablespoon five spice 1 tablespoon salt Salt to taste In a large bowl, mix chicken with milk and sambal. Let stand for 2 hours in the fridge. Mix the rest together. Pre-heat a fryer to 350 degrees. Pull out each piece of chicken and completely dredge in the flour mix. Fry 4 to 6 pieces at a time until golden brown. Check for doneness, will take about 8 minutes. Season lightly with salt. posted by Kitty Friday, March 28, 2003
Brace yourself - this is going to be a long rant. You all know I ride the shuttle. It isn't running this week. Why you ask? Because the students are off on Spring break. That's right - if the students are not riding, no one rides. This is total bullshit. I can see maybe not running the shuttle all day, but at least run it in the morning and evening for an hour so the employees who use it are not left hanging!!! And it won't be running this Summer either. Screw the employees! Make them find another way! This campus sucks in many ways when it comes to the way staff is treated. Oh, and a student said to me: "If it were not for the students, you would not have a job!" Okay, so how is this supposed to make me feel? We're not as important as the students? And, I WOULD have a job. I'd have a job that I didn't have to pay to work at! I could show up and park in a parking lot and not have to pay them $60 bucks out of my paycheck to be there! So here's what I have to do. Pay the $60 per month parking fees ~or~ park off campus and walk in. I'll be waking in because $60 bucks is a lot of money for me. This means I will have to leave 20 minutes earlier in the morning. It also means I will have to tote a pair of shoes (can't walk 1+ miles in dress shoes) along with me and whatever else I need to take to work. I have a shoulder problem, so this sucks. You might not think shoes are heavy, but trust me, they are NOT feather light. I will be hot and damp when I get to work because it tends to be very warm in the mornings, so forget wearing nice clothes. Nothing like wearing a nice sweater to work only to feel like you've been to a %$#*&^! sauna once you get there. No one likes to be all icky like that when they are dressed up. Okay, so I could wear shorts and a tee-shrit and change when I get to work....oh, but then there is more crap I'd have to carry! *sighs deeply and rolls eyes* Having a very hard time understanding why I work here today. I don't love many parts of my job and I know I have skills that could be used that aren't. Oh, but wait....now I remember why I work here. A mortgage payment and just recently added a car payment. Well, I guess I can look forward to retirement in.....30 years. posted by Kitty Tuesday, March 25, 2003
Happy Birthday Dad!! Today is my Dad's 74th birthday :) We took him and my Mom to King's Fish House for dinner on Saturday. It was good, they have really good homemade macaroni and cheese! This is not out of the box....wow....good stuff. A little pricey, but a good place to go if you want to treat someone to a nice dinner. www.kingsfishhouse.com ... You might recall my blog from a month ago...the one about the Virgo in my life and how he is fanatical about some stuff - the check book, vacuuming, etc. Well, he figured out his wu-name on Thursday. You'll never believe what it is. Fanatical Genius!! *LOL* ... I didn't watch the Oscar's, but I saw the pictures. Isn't that why most people watch? Come on...we all know that when it comes down to the nitty gritty, it's about the best and worst dressed. Everyone seem to look okay this year. There are a few exceptions to that tho.... Catherine Zeta-Jones. She's a pretty woman, but my goodness! That woman is huge! And I mean huge all over! I cannot imagine being excited about getting all dressed when you are as pregnant as she is. Nicole Kidman. Not sure how I feel about her yet. In the pictures it doesn't really look like her...it's weird. I think it's the hair. I'll have to watch one of the entertainment shows and see how she looks in motion. Halle Berry. This woman never looks bad. She really is beautiful and always looks great at these events. Queen Latifah. I liked her dress and there is just something about her that I admire. She looked good I think. Jennifer Garner. He dress looks like it is....squishing her boobs to death! Not good. Hillary Swank. *Love* her dress. Very pretty. Salma Hayek. Ick. The top is good, but the bottom of that dress has to go. And she needs a better hair style for the Oscar's. Saved the best for last. Sally Kirkland. I don't actually know who she is, but she looked.....*BAD*. Hot pink dress and tornado hair. That's all I'll say. Watch Joan Rivers for the blow by blow, or go to www.etonline.com to see some of the pictures I saw. Peace. posted by Kitty Monday, March 24, 2003
This might be the shortest blog I'll ever write. We need some fun today! Find out your "Wu-name". Mine is Bitter Killer....I guess it's true what they say about us quiet ones ;) http://www.blazonry.com/scripting/wuname.php posted by Kitty Thursday, March 20, 2003
Today's blog is about famous people. Bill Cosby has got to be one the best comedians around. The way he tells his real life stories makes me laugh so hard I get a headache...which sounds bad, but it really isn't. He's going to be at Viejas in June. You should try and get tickets if you've never seen him. His skit on "Childhood" deals with the difficulties of growing up and coming of age. He tells stories of his legendary childhood with comic insights about children of today. This skit alone is worth the price of admission :) ... Gwyneth Paltrow - this woman is classy. That can't be said about a lot of ladies in Hollywood - or men for that matter. My case in point, Colin Farrell. He tried to make the moves on Gwyneth. Keep in mind Mr. Farrell said his goal in life is to bed as many women as humanly possible. God, I hate men like him. I don't care if you are a red hot hottie, I just think men like that are gross. So anyway, they both happen to be at this swanky Hollywood restaurant and he goes over in what were reported as "the tightest jeans on the planet earth", and starts flirting with her. He complimented her on her work and thanked him, then continued chatting with her friends she was eating with. He boldy interrupted and asked for her number. "Oh, I'm sorry. I can't remember my cell number. It's a new phone," she said politely. "Well, why don't you just turn the phone on and the number will pop right up," he insisted. Again, Gwyneth tried to give him a hint by saying her battery was dead. But dense Colin then asked her where she was staying, and if he could call her there. "Oh, I'm staying with a friend and she doesn't really like me to pass out her number." After being dumbfounded that his passes were not being received well, he finally walked away. Not the brightest crayon in the box, hun? Now if we could just manage to get Ben Affleck off the arm of that sleezy Lopez woman and back with Gwyn, things would be they way they should be :) Speaking of her....the sleezy Lopez woman, I have to show you this. I was reading random blogs late one afternoon, and came across one written by a guy. He was going on and on about her ass being "a work of art". There was a link to this picture. I'm not sure I can call this art -- *cough, choke*. I better just keep my comments to myself, because I don't have a small ass, so I have no room to talk. With that said, I'll close for today and send you off to skanky Lopez land.... http://www.hottestpetites.com/jl5/jl5_010.jpg posted by Kitty Wednesday, March 19, 2003
Happy St. Patrick's Day. May the luck of the Irish be with you! ... Unless you are really out of touch with the world, you know the US is on the verge of war with Iraq. This all made me have a terrible dream on Saturday. Greg has been out of the Navy since about 1990, but in this dream, he was still in. Here it is in short....or as short as I can make it. I had got a call that I was being flown to a Navy base to be reunited with Greg whom I had not seen in 8 months. There were dozens of other wives on the plane with me. We were told that some men were missing, but we'd find out who when we got to the base. I was sure Greg wouldn't be one of the missing men ~ stuff like that only happens in the movies or to other people. At the base, I go to Greg's room and his bed is empty. I instantly know he is missing and lay down on his bed and cry. As the dream goes on, I make friends with a female Naval officer who keeps me up to date in the search for Greg and the other missing men. A few weeks go by and she gently tries to keep me from getting my hopes up that he'll be found alive. The day finally comes ~ the missing men have been found. Some are alive, some are not. I'm flown to another Navy base where I expect I'll be identifying Greg's dead body. The female officer comes with me for support. When we land, I give her a picture of him and tell her to get off the plane and to go see if he's out on the tarmac waiting for me. I wait, but can't resist and look out one the windows. I don't see him at first, but then I do. I hear the female officer calling excitedly for me....she see's him, too. I rush off the plane into his arms. He was thin and looked sickly, but to me, he'd never looked better. I woke up shortly after that. I laid there for a second and then my eyes watered and I rolled over and was really glad he was laying next to me. What's sad is, this kind of thing will happen. This dream will be real life for someone. I feel really selfish for saying it, but I'm glad it won't be real life for me. posted by Kitty Monday, March 17, 2003
Pamper yourself. This is the theme today. I get a catalog (one of the *many* catalogs) from this place called Garden Botanika. I love their stuff. Greg got me 3 things from their catalog for Christmas and I love all of them. One thing was a bottle of the "Heart" perfume. This stuff smells amazing. This is how they describe the scent. "Heart envelops you body in a sheer veil of citrus, floral and cedar notes, deepened with a hint of warm musk" It really is sheer....not heavy at all. People always tell me I smell good when I have this on. Anyway, they have a starter kit for only $7.50! I think this would be perfect as a little thank you gift or to buy to see if you like it....or you can just come smell me someday when I have it on :) Check out their web site and pamper yourself...they have *tons* of stuff. www.gardenbotanika.com ... I vowed over 5 years ago that I would never get another perm in my life. They look really nice when you have them done, but about 4 months later they start lookin'....well....bad. I've got some crazy notion to get one now. For awhile I was thinking of dying my hair a different color, but now I think I'll hold off on that. So what do you think? Should I get a perm? I need a change... ... This is for Greg. Last Friday when I posted the "hot babe link", he wished it had been a girl because all I ever post is pictures of hot dudes. Okay, so here's your hot female babe of the week. http://www.adoredcelebrities.com/pamela_anderson/images/pamela14.jpg For the ladies... http://www.artminds.com/cards/1/km.html ... Hi everyone! Anyone ever tried a burger from "Fatburger"? There's a coupon in the March 13th issue of the UCSD Guardian for a buck off one of their burgers. I checked out their web site and they look a lot like In-'N-Out Burger. Why, you ask, would they call their burger a *Fat*burger? I wondered, too. Here it what they say: "Back in '52, the word "Fat" meant you'd really made it. Fat City. Fat Times. Fat Cat. So when Lovie Yancey created her huge juicy hamburgers, there was only one name for them-- Fatburger." Makes sense. I think I might have to use this coupon and give them a try on Friday night. Check out their web site for a look at the menu and a location near you. http://www.fatburger.net ... Song lyrics. If you are like me, you actually *listen* to them. I can become attached to a song based on lyrics alone. The Hollie's "The Air That I Breathe" is one of those songs. If you have never *really* listened to it before, you don't know what you're missing. Deep stuff there. Another song is "Riders on the storm" by The Doors. Keep in mind, these two songs are nothing alike. "The Air That I Breathe" is about love, "Riders on the storm" is about a serial killer. Okay, maybe it isn't really a *serial* killer, they don't actually call him a serial killer, but in my mind, I think he is. Listen carefully to that one, too. Those two songs are pretty old....a current one that has great lyrics is "Thank You" by Dido. Another one is "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan. I think Angel is about a woman who goes to a hotel room to die and hopes an angel will come carry her off to a better place. Yes, it's sad that she wants to die. However, the idea she has that when she dies, she will be in the arms of an angel, is a beautiful thought. ... Now, go try and Fatburger and tell me how you like it ;) posted by Kitty Thursday, March 13, 2003
You may recall a blog entry a while back that featured a post from a drunk girl and was followed up by a post from a guy translating her incoherent message. I have yet another post about those two. Their screen names (from a Buffy the Vampire posting board) are Kissing Toast (aka KT) and Wicca Willow (aka WW). It seems they have become very good friends, nothing romantic, just friends. He took the bus down from Canada to Ohio to meet her and she posted about it....it's funny. Here's the post from Wicca Willow: ... So...today I did claim from the shady Columbus bus station one fun ass Canadian. His bus was late. We figured that the massive influx of Amish people had converted him and carried him off to their homesteads. We then proceeded to eat at the All American Johnny Rockets. Mmmm, meat spoon. My parents were convinced KT was a psychopathic killer. Alas, he is not. Matt decided he would call my mom to freak her out and go..."Oh...god...Emily. SO...Much...blood." *KT screaming* *dialtone* On the way home, God decided to rain down hellfire...wait...it was rain. We almost died 40 times. On the way out of Columbus, where ever we went all the power went out. We feared some odd "Darkness Falls" toothfairy deal...alas, it was just KT and his energy sapping. We also proceeded to get lost in the ghetto. That was scary. We sang rousing versions of Buffy Musical numbers...it was pretty. We sound like a choir of angels. We then decided to rent four hundred movies. Tonight we partook in the misadventure that is TRON. *shakes head* Oh christ. That was BAD. Then, Matt kicked our ass at the Buffy board game. Damn you Xander. Damn you and your lack of explosives. So yes. Now sporting jammies we must find other things to do. We may go watch a movie entitled "Octopus 2, River of Terror." Why is an octopus in a river? We'll let you know. ... To clear something up, Xander (short for Alexander) is a guy on Buffy. Also, I think Matt is WW's brother, but I'm not 100% sure about that. He may just be her roommate. Anyway, hope you thought that was funny. And when she explains what an octopus was doing in a river, I'll let you know ;) ... Now I'll leave you with some food for thought. Being nice seems like something that should come naturally. Yet, it seems like as the years pass, we have become a lot less nicer. Even 10 years ago I think people were much nicer. What will we be like 10 years from now? I had a customer call me this morning and he was anything but nice. In fact, he told me he was sure I'd screw things up and make his life harder rather than easier. Now, I do have the power to do this.....make his life hard....and when people call and bitch, saying they are sure I'll F*** up their account, it doesn't make me very sensitive to their situation. This customer could have called and been polite, but for some reason, he thought being an ass would get him better service. I *assure* you, this is never the case. You will always get better service if you are nice and polite when you need help from someone. Don't call and tell them how bad you think they might be at their job....this is only asking for them to do something like *accidently* misplace your paper work or...oops, *forget* to activate your account until the next day. They could very well become the crappy worker you told them they would be. I'll also add that, being smart is good, too. Smart people don't rush in to a situation with an attitude. Smart people know they'll catch more bees with honey than with vinegar. That's it....I'll get off my soapbox now. Oh, and don't worry....I didn't *accidently forget* to activate this dork's account. Lucky for him, I'm damn good at my job and feel it's too bad he thinks he has to be a dick to get what he wants. This will backfire on him someday....if it hasn't already. posted by Kitty Wednesday, March 12, 2003
Have you ever had to run to catch a plane or a bus? And When I say run, I mean RUN! I had to run to catch the shuttle this morning. The short story is, I missed picking it up at the UTC parking lot by about a minute and had to drive ahead and catch it at one of the other stops. I found a parking spot that I *thought* was close to a shuttle stop, but turns out it was a good five minutes away. Remember, the shuttle isn't that far behind me....about five minutes. I start running.....and running. I finally see the shuttle stop - thank GOD! Then the shuttle drives past me. If I could have, I would have cursed, but I was dying and way out of breath. I did end up getting on because it took a while to load all the passengers who were waiting. But man, I'm seriously out of shape! That five minute sprint did me in! Thankfully no one noticed, but I was in need of some oxygen as I sat there on the shuttle. I don't sweat, so that's a plus, but could have used some air. Anyway - note to self: leave the house five minutes earlier from now on. Switching gears now....like from first to overdrive. Gay men. The only one I've really known was this guy I worked with at Lea's Party Rentals. His name is Glenn. He came in responding to an ad we put in the paper looking for customer service help. My boss took at look at this binder he had with him - it was full of pictures of window displays he had done when he worked for a department store. They were nice, but we weren't looking for a window dresser. My boss, Faye, told him we'd be in touch, which was the polite way of saying "you didn't get the job". Glenn wasn't having any of that. In his flamboyant style, he kept after her until she broke down and gave him the job. He had us all laughing and Faye realized he would be good with the customers even tho he didn't have any office experience. Glenn turned out to be a great addition to the staff. He is, without a doubt, one of the funniest people I have ever known. And handsome, too. Men just must flock to this guy because he is tall, dark and has great taste in clothes. But, he has a serious female side, which mixed with his very manly looks, comes off as...well, odd. He sat like a woman, walked like a woman, everything like a woman....he was a woman in a man's body. Glenn even dressed like a woman when he went to clubs. Dolly, was what he called himself. He wore make-up, a wig, high heels...the whole 9 yards. He *really* looked like a woman. Only....he had a thick black mustache. So imagine this...if you can: A 6'2" woman with long legs and a short skirt saunters past. She has that walk that runway models have, they kind of walk with their hips out in front of them. *Everyone* looks at her because she stands out. It takes them about 7 seconds to realize this is actually a man....*only* because of the mustache.... I lost contact with Glenn many years ago. I wonder if he still lives in San Diego? I bet he's still funny and still good looking. Maybe I'll run into him some day....or maybe I'll run into Dolly ;) Have a good Tuesday everyone! posted by Kitty Tuesday, March 11, 2003
How about some useless knowledge for a Friday! ... Here's a bad prediction: "A university education will be free to every man and woman by the end of the 20th Century. Several great national universities will have been established. Children will study a simple English grammar adapted to simplified English and not copied after the Latin Medical inspectors regularly visiting the public schools will furnish poor children free eyeglasses, free dentistry, and free medical attention of every kind." - John Watkins, 1900. ... Did you know that, before a wrist injury changed her career plans, Marlene Dietrich had wanted to become a professional concert violinist. Find out more about her at http://www.marlene.com. ... Word of the Day: flat-hat Meaning: To fly low in an airplane in a reckless manner. Example: "Mavrick gave a whoop of glee as brought his plane down dangerously low, flat-hatting over the air traffic tower causing startled air traffic controllers to jump and spill hot coffee on themselves." Points to those who know what movie that example is taken from :-) ... Useless and weird fact: The dog and the turkey were the only two domesticated animals in ancient Mexico. ... *Hot* babe of the week: Andrew Firestone He's going to be the next star of the hit show "The Bachelor". I have two things to talk about today. First, personal conversations. The key word here is *personal*. Yesterday I was subjected to three different personal conversations that were pretty annoying. The most annoying of the three was a girl on her cell phone fighting with her boyfriend. Even tho I could only hear her side of things, I knew exactly what was going on: She has a new apartment. He invited friends over to have dinner at her place. She's mad because she isn't finished unpacking and there are boxes in the hallway. He has no idea what the big hairy deal is about people seeing boxes in the hallway. I had to listen to this for 15 minutes while I was waiting for the shuttle.....so did the 20 other people waiting. She'd hang up on him and he'd call her back five seconds later and the whole thing would start all over again. I tell you, I was ready to kill her. Loud, obnoxious, no tact.....I cannot imagine what this dude sees in her. She must be a good kisser because there isn't much else there. And yes, she got on the shuttle, so there was another five minutes of this until we got to her stop. I think it's safe to say eveyone was happy to see her disembark. The second annoying conversation was two guys talking about their friend who is dating an 18 year old chick. He's 24. They think this is poor judgment....tisk, tisk....blah, blah. I think they are just jealous that *they're* not dating her! And the last one.....and this is a good one - a girl talking about her cross-dressing grandmother. Yes folks, I swear on a stack of bibles that a girl on the shuttle was talking about this. *shakes head and will never understand people* *** Second topic - crusty old Willie Nelson. This man has issues bigger than any of us will ever understand. But I bet if you asked him, he'd tell you he lives a care free life and is happy as a lark. Reason I say this - the man smokes pot 24 hours a day!!! Hell, I'd be happy and care free too if I was always high! I heard him on the radio talking about how America is misguided in their fight against marijuana smokers. He says the police waste valuable time arresting these "otherwise law-abiding citizens who smoke marijuana responsibly". *clears throat here* He continued to say to those who may have been recently busted for position of marijuana: "rather than curse the darkness, light a candle". Can't you just hear him saying that? *rolling eyes here* So go ahead, smoke a joint "responsibly"....just be sure to have that candle ready. posted by Kitty Tuesday, March 04, 2003
It's March....this kinda blows my mind. Time really does fly. Tho I remember when I was a kid, time crept by. It took forever for Christmas Eve to finally happen so we could open gifts. The month of December was reeealllly long. Or after I'd been outside playing all afternoon I'd ask my Mom for a snack - she'd tell me it was too close to dinner time and I had to wait. Man, it took forever for 5:30pm to roll around so we could finally eat. I even set the table for her hoping that would speed things up and get the food on the table faster. Oh....and hair washing. This should only take a few minutes, but it lasted far too long for me. My Mom has long nails and she would scrub my scalp with them - it was painful! She washed my hair twice....just like it says on the back of the bottle.....so this torture seemed never ending. Anyway....enough of my childhood tortures. But speaking of children, did you hear Mister Rogers died? He was 74 and died of stomach cancer. Pretty sad. He seemed like he had a truly kind soul. Here's an article about him if you care to know more. http://entertainment.msn.com/news/article.aspx?news=116004 In closing, here is my advice for today: Go buy the CD "Come Away With Me" by Norah Jones. She cleaned up at the Grammys and deserved to. I think you'll like this CD if you give it a try :) posted by Kitty Monday, March 03, 2003
