Ode To Billy Blog

I know the title makes no sense.

A strippers view on stripping.

Stripping is Hard.

Before I became a stripper (man, feels like looking back on the Dark Ages from a gilded turret of enlightenment), I suffered from the delusion that strippers were pampered. This misconception probably resulted from wild exaggerations in the mass media (Strippers make $3000 a night! They only work one day a week! They get paid simply for their company! They're relentlessly pelted with wadded hundred-dollar bills from the moment they emerge from their luxe dressing rooms!)

In reality, strip clubs are frenetic machines oiled with the sweat of diligent girls. Strippers often work ten-hour shifts, and all but the most experienced hustlers will spend that entire time going from table to table, attempting to make a tired sales pitch sound daisy-fresh. Wanna lap dance? Wanna lap dance? It's exhausting, and a stripper's very survival (and sometimes the survival of her children/partner/parents) depends on the strength of her hustle. There are no paychecks and no guarantees. There is no dental insurance, and there won't be a cake on your birthday.

Salespeople in other fields merely have to look presentable and muster a modicum of enthusiasm. A stripper is expected to look lean and gorgeous, smell delectable (even after hours of dancing), maintain her sparkle and confidence (despite fending off multiple attempts at sexual assault each evening) and be an Oscar-caliber actress (even when she's ready to slug you in the nuts.) Girls that neglect some or all of these skills don't make money. They rarely last.

But strippers are rich! you say. Some are, and you'd be right if you said they were grossly overcompensated. However, for every alpha-stripper that makes $1000 + a day, there are ten new girls or B-girls who work ten hours only to take home $50. Believe it. Strippers pay steep house fees for the "luxury" of working, and less-successful girls have to pay the same amount as those who can easily afford it.

At present, I'm not in a position to complain. I'll admit that I work in a very fair club and I make excellent money. However, it wasn't always so. I spent a year attempting to decode the industry, with minimal help from my ever-wary coworkers (I was, after all, competition.) Girls guard their secrets and force new girls to endure a veritable gauntlet of mindfuckery and alienation. If you're new to a club, consider yourself lucky if someone will show you where the bathroom is.

Stripping is hard work, kids. I come home tired every night.

Random Thoughts

Imagine for a moment ~ being the president.
I sat and imagined this, and...I didn't care for it at all. In fact, I started to get a headache. This could possibly be the worst job out there for me. However, with some practice (like a month), and a few tequila shots (about 5), I feel I could deliver a better speech than our current leader.

--

This is a snipit from a friends blog:

"I'm having a HUGE craving for chocolate chip cookies dunked in some OJ"

*cringe*

That does not sound the least bit tastey. Do any of you do that?

--

For me, there are a two people who can write and sing songs like no one else. They can both make me cry....and smile. I cannot imagine changing the station if one of their songs is playing on the radio.

When I was 15, there was a song by one of these two people that I would play over and over and over. This is saying a lot because at the time, it was a record I was playing, so I had to get up every 2 minutes and lift the arm of the record player and set it back in just the right spot to start the song again. Man, that was a pain in the butt.

Then a few years later my brother got a Walkman. I quickly made it my own. It was damn heavy ~ all metal, and ate half my tapes. I still have it and it still works...it still eats the occasional tape. One tape that Walkman did not dare eat, is the one that is currently inside of it. I'm amazed that tape still plays and sounds good. Maybe I will go home and sit in my driveway like I did years ago and listen to it from the first song to the last. I know all the songs by heart on that tape.

I will leave you with the lyrics from the record I played over and over and the lyrics from one of my very favorite songs from the tape. Enjoy.

Empty Garden
By Elton John

What happened here
As the new york sunset disappeared
I found an empty garden among the flagstones there
Who lived here
He must have been a gardener that cared a lot
Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop
And now it all looks strange
It's funny how one insect can damage so much grain
And what's it for
This little empty garden by the brownstone door
And in the cracks along the sidewalk nothing grows no more
Who lived here
He must have been a gardener that cared a lot
Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop
And we are so amazed we're crippled and we're dazed
A gardener like that one no one can replace
And I've been knocking but no one answers
And I've been knocking most all the day
Oh and I've been calling oh hey hey johnny
Can't you come out to play
And through their tears
Some say he farmed his best in younger years
But he'd have said that roots grow stronger if only he could hear
Who lived there
He must have been a gardener that cared a lot
Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop
Now we pray for rain, and with every drop that falls
We hear, we hear your name
Johnny can't you come out to play in your empty garden

Downbound Train
By Bruce Springsteen

I had a job, I had a girl
I had something going, mister, in this world
I got laid off down at the lumber yard
Our love went bad, times got hard
Now I work down at the car wash
Where all it ever does is rain
Don't you feel like you're a rider on a downbound train
She just said, "Joe, I gotta go
We had it once, we ain't got it anymore"
She packed her bags, left me behind
She bought a ticket on the Central Line
Nights as I sleep, I hear that whistle whining
I feel her kiss in the misty rain
And I feel like I'm a rider on a downbound train
Last night I heard your voice
You were crying, crying, you were so alone
You said your love had never died
You were waiting for me at home
Put on my jacket, I ran through the woods
I ran till I thought my chest would explode
There in the clearing, beyond the highway
In the moonlight, our wedding house shone
I rushed through the yard
I burst through the front door, my head pounding hard
Up the stairs I climbed
The room was dark, our bed was empty
Then I heard that long whistle whine
And I dropped to my knees, hung my head and cried
Now I swing a sledge hammer on a railroad gang
Knocking down them cross ties, working in the rain
Now, don't it feel like you're a rider on a downbound train

California Dreamin'

Last night I had a dream I was being chased by enormous man-eating snails. Let me tell you, these things could move waaay faster than the average garden snail. And yes, they left that yucky slime path in their wake.

I have no idea how my mind comes up with this stuff.

--

You remember me telling you about The Caveman back on March 3rd? Well, I saw him while I was out and about on campus this morning. He was riding a skateboard and came inches from slamming into a concrete wall when he became distracted by something. I never did figure out what he had been looking at, but just before he reached the wall, he dismounted and avoided disaster. I stood there holding my breath because I really thought he was going to plow into that wall. Then, in my mind, a little clip of him actually running into the wall played. He boomed into the wall and fell flat on his back, arms out to the sides. A circle of tiny chirping birds and stars swirled around above his head. He sat up looking like he had no idea where he was had grunted "HuH?".

I chuckled the whole way back to my office.

Have a good weekend.

My Current Addiction

I have lots of them, but my new one is getting free iTunes off Diet Pepsi caps. The addition will end April 30th, however......when the promotion ends.

The deal is, 1 in 3 people wins a free song....pretty good odds. I was buying soda everyday here at work and I never got a winning cap! Ugh! Then, Joe ~ my good friend at work, told me people figured out a way to see inside the caps by tilting the bottle at an angle and peeking in for a clear view of the inside of the cap. I also got cheating tips from my good friend Carl :) He was kind enough to give me 3 of his winning bottles!! That was so exciting!

I know, I know, I'm easily excited.

So the place I was buying my soda had been picked clean of all the winning bottles. Well.....I found a place that has a ton of winning bottles....and I cheat and only buy the winners using the bottle tilting technique. So far I have won 7 free songs!

Did any of you see the movie "Monster"? Charlize Theron won an Oscar for her performance as Aileen Wuornos ~ one of the few women serial killers in history. It's a true story ~ a very dramatic and sad one. Some people are just destined to do bad things if they let themselves fall into the "life sucks and I have no future, blah, blah, blah" way of thinking. Aileen Wuornos had a crappy childhood and suffered many heartbreaks. She let these things defeat her and she became weak rather than strong because of them. Aileen made her living as a truck stop hooker. One night she was raped by one of her customers. She killed him. And she continued to kill. I have not seen the movie, but I know the Aileen Wuornos story. It's interesting and has a dramatic ending. Charlize Theron must have really done a good job playing the part to get that Oscar. When I looked at the web site for the movie several months ago, I was *amazed* and the transformation they did on Charlize. She looks sooo much like Aileen Wuornos. I didn't even realize it was a picture of Charlize until I looked really closely. Check out this site to see a picture of the real Aileen, then a picture of Charlize as Aileen, and then a modeling head shot of Charlize. Truly
amazing.

Last Kiss

Sixteen-year-old Jeanette Clark was out on a date in Barnesville, Georgia on December 22, 1962, the Saturday before Christmas. She was with a group of friends in a '54 Chevrolet. J. L. Hancock, also sixteen, was driving the car in heavy traffic and while traveling on Highway 341, collided with a trailer truck. Jeanette, the driver and another teenager were killed, and two other teens in the car were seriously injured. Most had been students at Gordon Military College. It was a terribly gory accident and provoked an intense reaction in Barnesville.

Living about fifteen miles away in an old shack for which he was paying $20 a month rent was Wayne Cochran, a white R&B singer and composer. Wayne saw accident after accident on the busy stretch of highway on which he lived. He had written a song about all the accidents and left it unfinished, until he heard about the tragedy in Barnesville. He completed the song and dedicated it to the memory of Jeanette Clark. He called it "Last Kiss". Last Kiss went as high as number two on the charts in 1964.

Pearl Jam released their rendition of the song in '03. It sounds very much like Wayne Cochran's version ~ I really like it. It's on their Lost Dogs CD if you want to have a listen. It's got some powerful lyrics, I think.

Last Kiss

Well, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven so I got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world

We were out on a date in my Daddy's car
We hadn't driven very far
There in the road straight ahead
The car was stalled, the engine was dead
I couldn't stop so I swerved to the right
Never forget the sound that night
The cryin' tires, the bustin' glass
The painful scream that I heard last

Well, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven so I got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world

Well, when I woke up the rain was pourin' down
There were people standing all around
Something warm a-running in my eyes
But I found my baby somehow that night
I raised her head and then she smiled and said
"Hold me darling for a little while"
I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss
I found the love that I knew I would miss
But now she's gone even though I hold her tight
I lost my love, my life that night

Well, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven so I got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world

Fake It!

I was laughing my ass off this morning watching the show "Faking It". For those of you who have never seen it, they take ordinary people are turn them into something they are not. For example, on the very first show I watched, they turned this computer geek girl into a NFL cheerleader in about 6 weeks. She could not dance, didn't wear make-up, had a little bit of a poochy belly.....and, she really hated cheerleaders. No joke - she really did hate them because in high school the cheerleaders locked her in her locker. Anyway, they transformed her and she fooled a panel of experts at an NFL cheerleader adition. It was pretty amazing. I was having my doubts as to weather they could do it because she wasn't an easy student and they had so little time.

But last night was even better than the cheerleader episode. This 34 year old Literature Professor was transformed into a Chippendales dancer! I swear, if you get a chance, you have to watch this ~ it was so funny. Adam, the professor, had to be transformed in 4 weeks from a white gangly bookworm to a toned tan stud. He's 6'7" and only weighed 210. Very skinny. He wore glasses, like you'd expect a professor to wear, and he had this unkept curly brown hair. This man had no rhythm at all....not even a little bit. And he was a really nice person, but you could not call him a stud....not even a little bit. The big thing he had going for him was he was very enthusiastic about it all. He wanted to succeed and did everything they told him to do....which included taking a ballet class where they made him wear a pink tutu.

Honestly, it's worth watching :)

See the
Faking It web site.

It's Friday?
Really?
Thank God!

I need a vacation. Seriously.

This weekend I'm going to take 12 naps.
Long ones.

--

Friday night I’m going nowhere
All the lights are changing green to red
Turning over TV stations
Situations running through my head
Looking back through time
You know it’s clear that I’ve been blind
I’ve been a fool
To ever open up my heart
To all that jealousy, that bitterness, that ridicule
Saturday I’m running wild
And all the lights are changing red to green
Moving through the crowd I’m pushing
Chemicals all rushing through my bloodstream
Only wish that you were here
You know I’m seeing it so clear
I’ve been afraid
To show you how I really feel
Admit to some of those bad mistakes I’ve made
If you want it
Come and get it
Crying out loud
The love that I was
Giving you was
Never in doubt
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Babylon, babylon, babylon
Sunday all the lights of london
Shining, sky is fading red to blue
Kicking through the autumn leaves
And wondering where it is you might be going to
Turning back for home
You know I’m feeling so alone
I can’t believe
Climbing on the stair
I turn around to see you smiling there
In front of me
If you want it
Come and get it
Crying out loud
The love that I was
Giving you was
Never in doubt
Let go your heart
Let go your head
And feel it now
Babylon, babylon, babylon

Home Alone

When I'm home alone at night, I cannot watch my forensic shows or anything remotely scary. You see, I have a very vivid imagination and it's hard for me to detach myself from the show. I fear that the serial killer from the show is now out of prison and is planning to come to my house that very evening and start up his killing spree again.

Yes, yes, I know I have issues.

But the unfortunate thing is, I don't even have to watch a show to get all freaked out. There is this one serial killer that I seem to always think about ~ he is referred to as the Zodiac Killer. He was never caught. Many feel he is dead, but I don't think so. I won't bore you with the details, but I just have a feeling he is alive and kickin' here in California. I will close with the chilling note he wrote to police back in 1966. Keep in mind, he was a young man in 1966, so he would only be in his mid 50's now.

SHE WAS YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL BUT NOW SHE IS BATTERED AND DEAD. SHE IS NOT THE FIRST AND SHE WILL NOT BE THE LAST. I LAY AWAKE NIGHTS THINKING ABOUT MY NEXT VICTIM. MAYBE SHE WILL BE THE BEAUTIFUL BLOND THAT BABYSITS NEAR THE LITTLE STORE AND WALKS DOWN THE DARK ALLEY EACH EVENING ABOUT SEVEN. OR MAYBE SHE WILL BE THE SHAPELY BRUNETT THAT SAID NO WHEN I ASKED HER FOR A DATE IN HIGH SCHOOL. BUT MAYBE IT WILL NOT BE EITHER. BUT I SHALL CUT OFF HER FEMALE PARTS AND DEPOSIT THEM FOR THE WHOLE CITY TO SEE. SO DON'T MAKE IT TO EASY FOR ME. KEEP YOUR SISTERS, DAUGHTERS, AND WIVES OFF THE STREETS AND ALLEYS. MISS BATES WAS STUPID. SHE WENT TO THE SLAUGHTER LIKE A LAMB. SHE DID NOT PUT UP A STRUGGLE. BUT I DID. IT WAS A BALL. I FIRST CUT THE MIDDLE WIRE FROM THE DISTRIBUTOR. THEN I WAITED FOR HER IN THE LIBRARY AND FOLLOWED HER OUT AFTER ABOUT TWO MINUTES. THE BATTERY MUST HAVE BEEN ABOUT DEAD BY THEN. I THEN OFFERED TO HELP. SHE WAS THEN VERY WILLING TO TALK TO ME. I TOLD HER THAT MY CAR WAS DOWN THE STREET AND THAT I WOULD GIVE HER A LIFT HOME. WHEN WE WERE AWAY FROM THE LIBRARY WALKING, I SAID IT WAS ABOUT TIME. SHE ASKED ME, "ABOUT TIME FOR WHAT?" I SAID IT WAS ABOUT TIME FOR HER TO DIE. I GRABBED HER AROUND THE NECK WITH MY HAND OVER HER MOUTH AND MY OTHER HAND WITH A SMALL KNIFE AT HER THROAT. SHE WENT VERY WILLINGLY. HER BREAST FELT WARM AND VERY FIRM UNDER MY HANDS, BUT ONLY ONE THING WAS ON MY MIND. MAKING HER PAY FOR ALL THE BRUSH OFFS THAT SHE HAD GIVEN ME DURING THE YEARS PRIOR. SHE DIED HARD. SHE SQUIRMED AND SHOOK AS I CHOCKED HER, AND HER LIPS TWICHED. SHE LET OUT A SCREAM ONCE AND I KICKED HER IN THE HEAD TO SHUT HER UP. I PLUNGED THE KNIFE INTO HER AND IT BROKE. I THEN FINISHED THE JOB BY CUTTING HER THROAT. I AM NOT SICK. I AM INSANE. BUT THAT WILL NOT STOP THE GAME. THIS LETTER SHOULD BE PUBLISHED FOR ALL TO READ IT. IT JUST MIGHT SAVE THAT GIRL IN THE ALLEY. BUT THAT'S UP TO YOU. IT WILL BE ON YOUR CONSCIENCE. NOT MINE. YES, I DID MAKE THAT CALL TO YOU ALSO. IT WAS JUST A WARNING. BEWARE...I AM STALKING YOUR GIRLS NOW.

Confused

I'm really confused about something. I was watching a show this morning and the host of the show says to her guest "I've never used my stove! I'm not even sure I know how!" She says she doesn't cook. Then the guest laughs and they got back to the original subject.

But wait.....huh!?

How do you never use your stove? Even most single guys and girls make a box of mac 'n cheese on the stove. What is this woman eating? Frozen dinners, popcorn, and take out? Sorry, I just can't imagine this.

If you have never used your stove....go make this. Cooking is fun and it's better than take out and frozen dinners. And please, use the anchovies. People have this fear of them and it's silly. When they are cooked this way, the flavor changes totally ~ no fishy taste at all! They dislove into nothing and just add a salty nutty taste. If you try it and I'm wrong, I'll eat an uncook tin of them. That should prove it right there, because right out of the tin, they are icky.

Linguini with garlic sauce

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
4 to 6 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 tin flat fillet of anchovies, drained, 6 or 7 fillets
1 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme
1 cup dry white wine
1 pound linguini
Lots of black pepper and some coarse salt

Start your pasta. Heat a large deep skillet over medium heat. Add extra-virgin olive oil, 4 turns of the pan in a slow stream, red pepper flakes, garlic and anchovies and cook until anchovies melt into the oil. Add thyme and wine. Reduce wine 1 minute. Add stock. Drain pasta and add to skillet. Toss with sauce 2 to 3 minutes, until pasta has absorbed some of the sauce and flavor. Add pepper and salt, to your taste and serve with bread for mopping up the yummy juices.

Delish!

The Reality Is

Reality TV is tops when it comes to ratings. The sad, or not so sad thing depending on how you look at it is, I don't usually watch reality TV shows. I've watched 4 or 5 episodes of Survivor this season, but lost interest. I've never seen an episode of American Idol or The Apprentice....but I do watch The Real World on MTV. I must be the only person who isn't watching all the other reality shows because, with the exception of CSI, reality TV shows have the tops spots. I bet ER would be higher on the list if it wasn't on so late. I have a feeling quite a few of the viewers record it like I do.

1. "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," CBS, 26.5 million viewers
2. "American Idol" - Tuesday, Fox, 25.9 million viewers
3. "American Idol" - Wednesday, Fox, 21.9 million viewers
4. "Survivor: All-Stars," CBS, 21.7 million viewers
5. "The Apprentice," NBC, 20.2 million viewers
6. "CSI: Miami," CBS, 19.7 million viewers
7. "ER," NBC, 19.2 million viewers
8. "Without a Trace," CBS, 18.1 million viewers
9. "Law & Order," NBC, 17.9 million viewers
10. "CBS NCAA Basketball (Semifinal): Connecticut vs. Duke," CBS

Now if you have not already heard the latest OJ Simpson news, be prepared to feel sick to your stomach.

O.J. is filming his new "Punk'd" style reality show called "Juiced." The show features people placed in embarrassing real-life situations who are then surprised when OJ jumps out and tells them they've been 'Juiced'.

I don't even know what to say about this except, has everyone forgotten about
this!?!

I'm So Blonde

Sometimes things happen and I know people are saying "She's such a blonde!" to themselves. This is a story of one of those times.

Many years ago I worked for a little software company in Pacific Beach. My bank was directly across the street, so when I needed cash for the weekend, it was really convenient to just take a break and run over and use the ATM. One day I go over and my card won't work and the machine sucks it in.

Damn.

I go in the bank and they tell me they'll issue another one and I'd get it in a week or so. Fine. I get the new card, the machine sucks it in again.

This whole process happened 3 times. It was .really. annoying.

I got to know the bank manager very well as I was in there every week because there was something wrong with each of the cards they sent me. The manager told me he thought it was something with the pin number not being correctly coded onto the strip of my card. Whatever, I just wanted it fixed.

The fourth time it happened I knew something was wrong. The machine was taking too long to process and I could tell it was thinking of sucking my card in. So I cancelled the transaction and it spit it out. This was the only time I actually got the card back. I went into the bank and had a cow. The manager coded the strip for me right there in the bank and we went out to the ATM together and it worked fine. We were both very happy. My card finally worked and he would not be seeing me again.

So I went back to my office and was telling all the girls I worked with about it....they were well aware of the problem. My manager asked me if I had something in my purse that maybe was "zapping" the magnetic strip on the card. I got my purse out and started taking everything out item by item.

"No, there's nothing in here that would zap my card. See, I have my wallet, my keys, my sunglasses.....and oh, I have this gigantic magnet in here, too..."

They all just looked at me as I produced one of those hide-a-key things that has a hefty magnet on it so you can hide it under your car.

This is the part where they all were saying "She's such a blonde!" to themselves.

I was always locking my keys in the car. Always. So this seemed like a good thing for me. But I was just so leery about actually using it. I mean, all a thief had to do was look around under the car and they'd find it.

So I kept it in my purse. Yeah, I just tossed this mega strength magnet in there and never considered it was a problem....until that moment.

And you know I didn't tell that poor bank manager it was really me that was zapping my card as soon as I put in it my purse.

Such a blonde sometimes...

Well Preserved Or Totally Worn Out
