Revelation

Okay, maybe revelation isn't the right title.

I've learned some things about myself in the past weeks. I'm a "sensory" kind of person. I have an acute kind of way of dealing with experiences. This is hard to explain but I'm going to use movies as an example. I can't see movies like Schindler's List. Some people can see movies like that and they leave feeling emotions but they get over it. I leave and feel terrible....it's harder for me to shake horrible things like that....I "feel" it more....it stays with me longer. So I know that kind of movie isn't for me and I just don't see them. I also know I'd be a terrible teacher. If I had a student who had issues at home or with other kids or whatever, I'd step in...but I'd have way too much emotion about it. I'd want to help more than I should. So things go deeper in me than with others. I can't distance myself from experiences as well as others can. So when things get bad, it really sinks in with me. And if a bunch of stuff happens, it ALL sinks in.

That's kind of where I'm at right now.

I can't change who I am and how I feel about things. I am who I am for a reason. There isn't anything wrong with being this way.

That right there might actually be a revelation.

People will tell me I have to be less sensitive....but that's not it at all. And that is poor advice becuase it makes people think there is something wrong with being sensitive. There are good things about being sensitive....but you hardly ever hear about those things. When there is joy and delight....we feel it.....when there is passion, we feel it...in spades. It isn't always about bad things. It's true some people can be a burden because they are just too stuck on very little thing....and this does not apply to them. But people who have a sensitive nature about them like I do....we just need to understand there needs to be some balance. If your life is tipping too far one way, it's easy to get pulled in deeper and deeper.

I'm working on some balance.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend

Between the backyard BBQ's, remember what day is being celebrated. Remember those who have paid the ulimate sacrifice for our freedom. Read the letter to Mrs. Lydia Bixby, November 21, 1864, from Abraham Lincoln:

"I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts, that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours, to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom."

That says it all, folks.

Mitts

My former supervisor at work is going to make me a pair of these mitts! I can't type with gloves on, so these will be perfect when the chilly days come back this fall. Mine will be black with a colorful edge....but I am going to try and talk her into a second pair of mismatched ones like the picture so I can have a pair at home and at work :)

Depression: a psychoneurotic disorder marked especially by sadness, inactivity, difficulty in thinking and concentration, a significant increase or decrease in appetite and time spent sleeping, feelings of dejection and hopelessness, and sometimes suicidal tendencies

I've thought long and hard about this post, and I guess it's finally time I put it out there.

I'm suffering from a pretty bad case of depression.

Have been for a long time, but it has become worse over the last 6 months. And I've felt guilty about it. I could hear people saying "what do you have to be depressed about?"

I have a job and a husband and a place to live...so I have no right to be depressed, right? That's what I think people will say. I kind of buy into it myself. I do have those things, so why can't I just shake this and be happy? I don't know why I can't. I see people with a lot less than me, people who struggle with health issues, who have no family or support, and yet they find joy in life. But I don't. I feel selfish and ashamed next to those people. Sometimes (a lot of times) I just put on a happy face and suppress my depression and do things I have to do....but it's getting harder and harder to do that.

I feel a pressure on me to just snap out of it and get on with being happy. Just snap out of it...just do it. I wish I could. I really do. I don't want to be this way. It sucks. And I feel bad for Greg....I know it has to suck being around me....so I feel bad about that, too. He shouldn't have to deal with this. It's a vicious circle of feelings.

Why do I bother going on like this
There is no meaning anymore
Day by day, week by week
It all blends into one
I have no idea what's going on
Every day I stumble on
Not knowing where I'm headed
The same faces same places
It all blends into one
I have no idea what's going on
I have no idea why I'm so fucked up

Not 90210

My hunt for a new purse is finally over. It's taken a while, but I finally found one I like. It's a Brighton...I have always loved their stuff.

I had actually bought a Guess purse a week or so ago. I was never really very happy with it, so I took it back and found this new one. It's a little bigger and I think it's cute. Nice spring/summer bag.

Now the hunt was on for a new wallet because my old wallet is too big and is sort of clunky. I had finally found the perfect wallet. It's cute, will hold everything I have and is small. Great! I'll take it!

dooney3

It's a Dooney & Bourke wallet so I had figured I'd be laying down some cash for it. How much do you think it cost? I was thinking maybe $45 but was hoping it was more like $25. Take a wild guess...

It's $155 bucks.

I almost choked on my gum when I looked at the price tag.

And they were almost sold out of them in the light green color.....so people are buying them.....for $155 bucks!! You can buy a Dooney and Bourke handbag for that much....well, if it's on sale. A wallet for over $100 bucks? That's nuts.

So this is proof I am not a 90210 girl.

Never Order From ProFlowers.com

On April 27th I heard a reminder on the radio that Mother's Day was just around the corner. I sat down at my computer and thought I'd just take care of ordering flowers for both my Mom and Greg's Mom right there and then. I placed two orders and got Saturday delivery since they don't deliver on Sunday. I was pretty darn pleased with myself for being so on the ball and getting this out of the way early.

Friday May 12th: I get an email from ProFlowers. There is a glitch with one of the orders, but not to worry....the flowers will arrive on Saturday.

If everything is okay, why email me?? *rolls eyes*

I should have known right there that is was going to trun out badly. When we tell people there was a glitch, something bad happened. It's another way of saying "We messed up your order".

Saturday May 13th: My Mom got her flowers. The vase I ordered with the flowers was cracked and the leaves were full of holes from bugs eating them. Nice.

Sunday May 14th: Greg called his Mom and asked how the flowers looked. "What flowers?" she said.

Checked email and there was a message from ProSuckyFlowers: "That glitch we told you to ignore really means that the flowers sent to Indiana are not actually going to arrive on time. We're sorry. Next time you use our sorry-ass company to send flowers, we will ship them for free. Your order code for the free shipping is: "we.suck".

Called ProSuckAssFlowers twice and FedEx once. The short story is, ProCrapAssFlowers sent the flowers from Chicago to Indiana via freight truck and they would be there Tuesday May 16th. And, they were in a box....so they would arrive dead. Sorry ~ but you can have free shipping on your next order! :)

Uh, no. I will get free shipping on this order. As the matter of fact, you will refund my whole order.

Tueday May 16th: Called to have a replacement order sent to Greg's Mom. This should have been done Sunday when I called, but we are talking about ProDumbAssFlowers here. Here is how the call went:

UnProfessionalFlowers: New flowers will arrive Saturday.

Me: Huh? Saturday!?

UnProfessionalFlowers: Okay, how about Friday?

Me: Friday?? How about over night, Einstein!

UnProfessionalFlowers: Nope, Friday is the best we can do.

*shakes head and rolls eyes*

Whatever.

Which brings me back to never order from UnProfessionalSuckyAssCrapFlowers.com.

Just wondering....

* why do people always think everything is about them?
news flash....it isn't all about you!
* where will I be in 10 years? will I even be here?
* will my bedroom ever get decorated?
* do we ever get over the pain of a broken heart?
* will things mellow out or get worse when I move into my cubical?
* should I sell my cookie stamps? I think I should.
* how long will my washer continue to work?
* am I too nice? maybe....or maybe I'm not as nice as I think I am.
* will I find a pair of casual white shoes that I like?
* is this year ever going to get better?

Technicolor Dream

I took this photo this morning before I had to get ready for work. It was overcast so it is a bit underexposed. I could have cranked up the exposure in iPhoto (as suggested in some of the comments left), but I like it as is. The depth of color is better if left underexposed. So no points on technical, but I'm fine with that :)

Hypothetical

Okay, here we go with one of those questions that makes you think.

The set up: You could be the person who seals the boxes at the Rice Krispies factory, the CEO of a big company, a gas station attendant....whatever. Where you work is not a factor. You work with someone who you consider a "work friend". This is someone who you might eat lunch with now and then and chat with at the water cooler. You don't see this person on the weekends or after work....just a work friend.

The issue: One day the work friend gets sick and months later it comes out that this person needs a new liver. No idea what is wrong with the one they have, they just need a new one. As the moral and good thing to do, everyone you work with gets tested to see if they are a match for a new liver. Look at that....you are the only match! WhooHoo! Or is it WooHoo? The doctor tells you the risks and says he will only tell your work friend you are a match if you are really serious about forking over part of your liver. Once you say yes, you can't turn around and chicken out a week before the surgery.

The question: Would you fork over part of your liver to a work friend? It is well known that the donor undergoes a much longer surgery than the recipient of the new liver does and recovery can be a hard. However, you are in good health and have a very good chance doing just fine.

The decision: Tick tock, tick tock....so you going to do it or are you going to pass on this one?

Some news.

The crack house across the street from my house might be going out of business soon. I say might because Greg thinks the guy who lives there has more lives than a cat.

Last week 6 cops showed up over there. I was sure they guy was going to be arrested, but they left about 40 minutes later without him. I heard one of the cops say something about the house is sure to be condemned. This is a glimer of hope for me. I really hope they were serious and will have the health inspector come out and look at this place. It's a disaster. I'm pretty sure they don't have running water in one of the bathrooms and they have rats....and God only knows what else. He had only wanted that mother cat I rescued because he said she was good for catching the rats.

shudders

And speaking of the mother cat, she was the first to be adopted from the foster home they were in! WhooHoo! A young couple fell inlove with her. I guess they had wanted a kitten, but they saw her and she was so sweet and loving that they had to have her. So that really made me happy. And all the kittens have been adopted....so it's a happy ending. I'm so glad I went over there on Easter and got them....I think I was the only one looking out for them.

There is part of the story I didn't post.

I had said that I got them all that day, but the truth is, I was only able to capture 5 of them. There was the 6th kitten that would not come out. I sat there for an hour asking God for patience and for Him to let it come out....soon. I finally had to give up and leave without the last one. I felt terrible. There was no way that 7 week old kitten was going to survive without her mother. It was going to die in that filthy disgusting garage. But what was I going to do?

Three days later I found a way. The foster mother that took them had a trap. She loaned it to me and I set it in his front yard next to a hole in the garage door. But there was not a peep. I was sure the kitten was dead. I mean it had been 3 days and I had no idea if it had eaten or not. The next morning there was still no action. I went over and got the trap and lined the bottom of it with paper thinking maybe the kitten didn't want to walk on the cage wire. I replaced the food and set it again. This was at about 6:30am. At 7:30am I was eating my breakfast and heard the most horrible howling ever. It was the kitten in the trap. I ran out and there was Mr. Crack Man toting the trap and kitten into his house. I knew he had plans on keeping the kitten since he had asked Greg if we still had the momma cat....he wanted her back...for rat control. Not fricking way!! I yelled for him to stop. Amazingly, he gave me trap and kitten without issue.

We had the kitten for 2 days because, for one reason or another, we could not drop it off at the foster home. The night before we were to drop it off, Greg said we should just keep it. He will tell you it was my idea, but it was his.

So that's how Abby came to be ours. Seemingly the most unlucky of the litter turned out to be the most lucky. She will live carefree in our home. We will love her and adore her for as long as she is alive.

sweetness

I had wondered why God had not answered my prayer that day.....to please just let her come out. Now I know He had a bigger plan. Had she come out that day...she would not be ours today.

Kitten On Crack

crazy kitten

Tell me she does not look crazy in that picture. She was attacking my camera. Each time I put it up to my face, she'd try to attack it. Let's hope she gets over this phase pretty soon.

So the last time we had a kitten in your house was 13 years ago....when we got Henry. We forgot what it was like. Kittens have endless amounts of energy.....endless. They also have sharp claws and teeth. They attack everything, but mostly feet. Greg calls her "piranha" because of the teeth. We've given her lots of nicknames. So far she has no idea her name is Abby because we call her so many other things.

Poor Calvin. He has to put up with her more than anyone else in the house. She is after him all the time. This morning he was drinking from the water bowl, and because she does everything he does, it was time for her to have some water, too. He sat up, put his ears back and just watched her take over. Then he walked away disgusted. Moments later she went skidding around him in a circle and lept in the air going for his tail. His tail is one of her favorite toys. I laughed and he truned around and gave me the most hysterical look...."so you think this is funny, huh? whatever". He then continuted down the hall to our bedroom with the piranha on his tail....literally. It was so funny.

about to attack the camera

Question:

If you could have five people (living or deceased) to dinner, who would they be?

1. Oprah
2. Bruce Springsteen
3. Marilyn Monroe
4. Ina Garten
5. Anne Frank

Bruce would sing a few songs with Marilyn while Ina cooked dinner. Oprah would interview Anne over dinner...it would be amazing to sit and listen to. After dessert, we could line dance and laugh our asses off because we were tipsy from the killer cocktails Marilyn made. Anne would pass out in a hammock. Marilyn would be more beautiful than imagined. Ina's laugh would stay with us forever. Oprah is the life of the party. And Bruce....he would write a song about it.

A Letter

It's kind of long....but worth reading.

NewsWithViews.com

Dear President Bush:

I'm about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family, and I would like to ask you to assist me. I'm going to walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements. I know you can help with this.

I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do here.

So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that I'm on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:

1. Free medical care for my entire family.
2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.
3. All government forms need to be printed in English.
4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.
5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.
6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.
7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.
8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy access to government services.
9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won't make any effort to learn local traffic laws.
10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English.
11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.
12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and don’t enforce any labor laws or tax laws.
13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy.

I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico. I am sure that Pres. Fox won't mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.

However, if he gives you any trouble, just invite him to go quail hunting with your V.P.

Thank you so much for your kind help.

Sincerely,
David M. Bresnahan
