Yup, I'm really getting old. Went to the doctor this morning because my hip was killing me. Turns out I strained a muscle in my lower back. It's weird how it feels like my hip. Anyway, she says two weeks to totally heal. Wonderful.
So while I was there waiting for her to come in and check me out, I was looking around the room. Anyone know what a sphygmomanometer is? Take a wild guess. Come on....just a guess. Well, it's a blood pressure cuff and gage. Interesting, hun?
As long as I have you guessing, try and figure out what movie this is:
An honest banker is wrongly convicted of killing his wife and her lover. In prison he is befriended by a man "who knows how to get things". After 20 years, he makes a daring escape and heads to Mexico. His friend from prison meets up with him there later when he gets out on parole and they lead honest lives from there on.
What's the movie?

I'm sure you've all heard the story about the Dixie Chicks....
"Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
That's the comment that started it all. They said they don't plan what they say during concerts....stuff just comes out. They didn't even really think about the comment until it came back and bit them hard in the ass. They also said, it wasn't really what they meant. Seemed clear - I can't see how they could have meant something else.
"I'm not truly embarrassed that, you know, President Bush is from my state, that's not really what I care about. It was the wrong wording with genuine emotion and questions and concern behind it."
Not truly embarrassed? Is that like "only kind of embarrassed"?
Following up with statements like that (poor wording, I might add) is called spin control...and I ain't buying it. These girls need to keep their mouths shut for the sake of their careers. I'm not a fan of Mr. Bush, so I'm not saying I'd be proud to have him from my home state, but let's face it, when you are in the spot light, it might be a good idea to keep your views private. But they don't. And they have the right to free speech...they have said that. Sure...we all do. So why are "we"....the public, looked upon badly by them when we make our comments about THEIR comments. It goes both ways...chicks.
These girls have gone so far as to pose nude on the cover of Entertainment Weekly with things like "Saddam's Angels" and "Free Speech" painted on their bodies in black. That's classy....
"Accept an apology that was made. Don't forgive us for who we are."
Um, don't worry about us forgiving you for what you think are the wrong reasons, girls. Just sit back and watch your record sales drop and catch the evening news to see protesters smash your CD's in the streets. It's a free country after all....

I see weird things. I always have - always will.
I see men peeing at the side of the road all the time. What's up with that? I don't want to see that, but I always do! A few nights ago I saw a guy peeing on my way home. It's like they know I'm going to be driving by soon and get out and go. *sigh*
Last week when it was raining, I saw a guy in a long black cape that had this huge silver clasp thing at the neck. It was blowing behind him in kind of a wave motion. His brown hair was about to his shoulder blades and pulled into a pony tail. He was dressed in black...everything - pants, shoes, shirt. I was asking myself "is it Halloween?" Very weird. He looked like Dracula just walkin' down the street like there was nothing odd about him at all.
Then last night I get off the shuttle at UTC and there is a duck standing in the parking lot holding up a few cars that needed to get by. Yes folks, a duck. The kind with the green neck and all. There was actually 3 of them, but the other two were in the divider on the grass. So I get off the shuttle and, being an animal lover, I walked over and "shewed" him out of the road. Well, it became obvious why he was in the street as soon as he got on the grass. One of the other ducks went tearing after him! Poor thing....he was a little outcast. So off the grass he went and back into the street. I just stood there for a minute wondering what I could do. But then the security/parking guys drove up and I knew someone had called them to come do something about these ducks. Thank goodness....I would have been wondering about those ducks all night. And they were gone this morning, so they must have moved them. Now that's weird. Ducks in a mall parking lot.
I'll end my "I see weird things" blog with something interesting. It's a letter to the troops from Stevie Nicks. It's nice...I bet she has a kind soul.

I was just sitting here thinking about when I was little.....about 7 years old I guess, and I would come home from school on half days and my Mom made me a can of bean soup and a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch. I used to love to have that for lunch. Did you have half days at school? Every Thursday was a half day in elementary school so the teachers could have some kind of conference.
I remember this one day I was so eager to get home.....cannot remember why, but I opted to take the short route rather than the usual long route home. The shorter route had dogs, and I was really scared of dogs. I mapped out a route that was dog free, only it took me forever get home. But this one day I took the short route well aware I might run into one of the beasts, but had to get home. I manage to get to my street without seeing a dog, so I thinking it's cake from here. Wrong. About 5 houses down from my house lived a really mean dog and he was always getting out. I got right to that house and thought I was home free because I don't see him out. All of the sudden, here he comes plowing out of the yard after me. I drop all my stuff and run to the house next door where Mr. & Mrs. Wilt lived. I get to the door, rip the screen door open and POUND on their door screaming "Mrs. Wilt, Mrs. Wilt", over and over. No answer.....and the dog is coming up the driveway behind me barking. You will never believe what I did. I somehow managed to get myself shut between the screen door and the actual front door to protect myself. That's right, I got my feet sideways and pulled the screen door closed and it clicked shut. So there I was.....smashed between the two doors. That dog jumped on that screen barking at me for what seemed like forever. Finally he figured out that he couldn't get to me thru that screen door. Loosing interest, he trotted off. BUT....I knew he was still out there and there was no way I was leaving the safe haven smashed between these doors. So there I stayed....waiting patiently for Mrs. Wilt to come home or for my Mom to come looking for me. I was really uncomfortable - I couldn't even turn my head. Finally my Mom comes looking for me because I'm so late. I can hear her calling for me like she did when it was time to come home for dinner. I called back as loud as I could. You know Mom's have some kind of sonar and can tune into the sound of their own kids voice...even if it is 6 houses away. So she comes down the street and can hear me....but she can't figure out where the hell I am. She finds my books.
"Where are you?" she calls.
"In Mrs. Wilt's door." I say.
In Mrs. Wilt's *door*? she's thinking....confused. Up the driveway she comes and turns into the doorway and sees me smashed between the doors. Now....I don't know how she managed not to burst out laughing. I know I would have if I was her. But she opened the door and I came tumbling out, and start to cry from the trauma of the whole ordeal. My Mom figures out what happened thru all my crying, and is roaring mad at the people next to the Wilt's for leaving their dog out again to terrorize the neighborhood kids. It really was a mean dog and was always after some little kid. When they got home from work, she went right down there and tore into them.
The lesson:
Never piss off a kids Mom. They are like lions when someone or something mistreats their babies - they will tear you to bits. Even if the kid was doing something wrong, never touch or mistreat a kid...you'll get a visit from Mom. And if it isn't Mom, it'll be their aunt, sister, grandmother.....and trust me, it won't be pretty. PRAY it isn't Dad....you could loose an arm if Dad shows up, because he'll rip it off and beat you with it. Okay, I think you get the picture.
Oh, and guess what? That dog was never out again ;-)

It's Friday and I took the day off because I had to go to a doctor appointment and I knew when I was finished I wasn't going to feel like going to work.
Background: When I was having shoulder problems, I went to the doctor. While I was there, we talked about my high blood pressure. I'm on medication for it - have been since I was 16. They say I got it from my Dad. Anyway, it was really high the day I saw the doc, so she told me she wanted me to go to this high blood pressure clinic. Fine, whatever. I knew I was going to hate it, but what was I supposed to say? So today was the day.
It was a group appointment. I was in there with about 12 people and they were all 60+....except me, of course. Boy, I feel good already. One thing I notice about everyone is...we are all overweight. We sit in this circle, and honestly, I felt like I was at an AA meeting.
"Hi. My name is Aime. I'm fat and have high blood pressure."
It was not fun. They sat us there for over an hour telling us to stop smoking, stop drinking, start exercising our lazy asses, and never eat another unhealthy thing again for the rest our lives. No, they didn't exactly say that, but they may as well have. We were told to never use salt because we get all the salt we need from pre-packaged foods. So, no salt in cooking or on your food at the table. Okay, this next thing they said killed me. Do not eat pre-packaged food. Um, so we can salt our food then? *shakes head - rolls eyes* They should not have asked me to come to this meeting if they didn't want me to look at them like they are a bunch of idiots. As far as what to eat: never eat out - it's all bad for you. They gave us a book that lists all the popular places to eat, what they serve, and how bad it is for you. They even had Soup Plantation on the list. Okay, so eat at home....nothing pre-packaged. Cook from scratch....everything - this way you will know what's in your food. And remember, no salt because you get that from pre-packaged food. WHATEVER!
I wanted to say "Look people, I know I'm fat, I know I have high blood pressure. I don't eat loads of salt, don't smoke, don't drink....and it's true, I'm not out there running around the block every day, but I get exercise. And you know what? I'm buying bread! I'm not getting a damn bread machine because I'm not into trying to control every damn thing in my life right down to the bread I eat!! Sorry."
So I came home feeling like dog doo....I knew I would. I mean, how are you supposed to feel after a meeting where they tell you that you will probably have a stroke or a heart attack someday, your kidneys will fail, or you'll loose your sight because of the pressure in your veins. Oh, and you are fat and should live on carrot sticks and grapes for the rest of your life. Yeah, it was a good way to start out the day....and my weekend.

Happy Easter.

Any of you watch that new show called "Lucky" on FX? It stars John Corbett. He was on "Sex & The City" and he was in My Big Fat Greek Wedding"...boy is he hot! Anyway, he has a gambling problem and seems to have rather poor luck with everything but gambling. It's starting out to be a good show - tune in and watch. But reason I bring this up is, I wonder how someone can be addicted to gambling? It's hard for me to understand. I'm not really sure I've ever been addicted to anything except chai tea. Okay, maybe there was a time in my 20's when I was addicted to chicken strips and ranch sauce, but that's not close to gambling either. Oh....there's Buffy....I'm addicted to that TV show. But I still cannot see how someone can be addicted to gambling. That just seems crazy to me. I could stop watching Buffy. No, really....I could. I'd just read the reviews....and....talk to other people who watch it. No problem....I could....if I had to......you know, stop....watching it.
Wait.
There are only 5 Buffy episodes left....so I just have to see those and then I'll stop watching. Promise. I won't even talk about them after I watch them. Not a word - lips would be sealed. Watch them and be done. See, I could do it.
Oh...but, um, does watching the reruns on FX count as watching? Cuz those aren't new....those are the old ones....so I should be able to watch those right?
Hummm. Maybe I understand a little bit....

Today it's all about Men :)

Why Guys Have All The Luck
==========================
A guy's butt is never a factor in a job interview.
A guy's last name stays put.
A guy's orgasms are real. Always.
Wedding plans take care of themselves.
He doesn't have to curl up next to a hairy butt every night.
Chocolate is just another snack.
He can wear a white shirt to a water park.
Foreplay is optional.
Car mechanics tell him the truth.
He doesn't give a rat's ass if someone notices his new haircut.
Hot wax never comes near his pubic area.
Wrinkles add character.
Wedding Dress $2,000; Tux rental $200.
If he retains water, it's in a canteen.
Porn movies are designed with him in mind.
New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle his feet.
Your pals can be trusted never to trap you with: "So, notice anything different?"
One mood ... all of the time.
MEN ARE LIKE...Coffee, the best ones are rich, warm and can keep you up all night long.
MEN ARE LIKE...Chocolate Bars, sweet, smooth and they usually head right for your hips.
MEN ARE LIKE...Cement, after getting laid they take a long time to get hard.
MEN ARE LIKE...Parking Spots, the good ones are already taken and the ones that are left are handicapped or extremely small.
MEN ARE LIKE...Snow Storms, you never know when they're coming, how many inches youll get or how long they will last.
And for the ladies.....you just have to love him.

Martha Stewart had a 12 year old girl on her show Saturday morning who has terminal cancer. It's sad, she's only 12 and is going thru this. As I'm sure you all know, the Make-a-wish foundation grants wishes to these kinds of children. This girl's wish was to cook with Martha on her show. And, of course, her wish came true :) Martha asked her how she had come to know of the show, and the young girl told her that when she was home sick during her chemo, she'd watch Martha's program. She seems a very sweet girl and Martha was so nice to her - feeling honored that she'd be someone's wish. They made Easter cupcakes, and I gotta tell you, these cup cakes looked sooooo good. I'll post the recipe, but I just thought I'd share that with all of you. It was a Good Thing for Martha to do :)
Okay, from cupcakes to mosquitos.
I have three bites on my legs and they are making me crazy with the itching. One is the size of a quarter. I got to wondering...."what makes them itch?". So I started reading up on the subject. Turns out we are allergic to mosquito saliva. Yeah, I know, it's gross. Some people are so allergic to it, that they have to buy small pumps to suck the saliva out and help reduce the tiny infection. And get this - mosquitoes, or the diseases transmitted by mosquito bites, will be responsible for the deaths of one in every seventeen people currently alive. Worldwide, mosquitoes transmit disease to more than 700 million people annually, including malaria and dengue fever, yellow fever, filariasis, West Nile Fever and viral encephalitis. Mosquitoes are found everywhere except Antarctica. In the USA, mosquito borne diseases are uncommon and mosquitoes are mostly just an annoyance. However, just one bite from an infected mosquito can transmit disease and currently the USA is faced with an epidemic of West Nile Virus. Yikes!!
Okay, I guess that's about all you need to know about mosquito bites. Here's the recipe.
***
Jumbo Size Cupcakes
3 cups cake flour (not self-rising), sifted
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
2 cups sugar
5 large eggs
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk
Preheat oven to 325 degrees with a rack in the center.
Line jumbo muffin pans with paper baking cups; set aside. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda; set aside.
In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy, 3 to 5 minutes. With mixer running, add eggs and vanilla extract; beat until combined.
With mixer on low speed, add 1 cup reserved flour mixture; mix until combined. Add 1/2 cup buttermilk; combine. Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk, ending with flour, until all has been incorporated.
Divide batter evenly among baking cups. Bake until light golden brown and a cake tester inserted into middle comes out clean, 25 to 30 minutes. Rotate pans halfway through baking. Transfer pans to a wire rack to cool.
To decorate, frost each cupcake with about 3 tablespoons buttercream.
Swiss Meringue Buttercream
1 1/4 cups sugar
5 large egg whites
2 cups (4 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Combine egg whites, sugar, and vanilla in the heatproof bowl of an electric mixer. Set bowl over a pan of simmering water. Whisk constantly until sugar has dissolved and whites are hot to the touch, 5 to 7 minutes.
Transfer bowl to the electric mixer. Using whisk attachment, mix on low speed, gradually increasing to high speed, until stiff, glossy peaks form, about 10 minutes.
In a separate bowl, beat butter until creamy and fluffy.
At low speed, add butter to egg whites, mixing until smooth. Add vanilla, and continue mixing until incorporated. Use immediately.

It's amazing this stuff makes it all the way to court. Check this out - I just read this.
---
Fri Apr 11,10:59 AM ET
BERLIN (Reuters) - A German court has ordered a brothel to reimburse a man charged for sex he could not remember having, after the establishment failed to provide an itemized receipt for services rendered.
"The brothel failed to provide concrete documentation of the prices and services provided," said court spokesman Vera Huth in the western town of Duesseldorf on Friday.
"They should have, for example, listed two sexual intercourse sessions at 600 euros, oral sex at 300 euros or anal sex at 400 euros," she told Reuters.
The man told the court he had been too drunk to remember what sexual services he may have ordered at the brothel in Kaarst. The establishment charged him 9,000 euros (dollars) on his credit card. The brothel owner testified he had ordered the "full program."
---
Amazing. Somehow I don't think this would work here tho. Picture this scene if you can. A guy and a hooker the morning after. He got the "full program".
"Yeah, I was drunk and don't remember nothin', so I ain't payin' you," he tells the hooker.
"Okay. I'll call Vinny, my pimp, and he'll knock you around to see if he can jar your memory," the hooker says.
The guy thinks about that for a minute.
"Um, I think it's comin' back to me....yeah-yeah, I think I remember. How much do I owe again?"

Just some random stuff today. I saw this joke on the Internet and just cannot resist posting it.
Saddam's doctor called a meeting of all the Saddam look-alikes and announced:
"Men, I've got some good news and I've got some bad news."
"The good news is Saddam is still alive."
"The bad news is he lost an arm..."

Okay, now for the serious stuff. Did you know....
Mosquito repellents don't repel. They hide you. The spray blocks the mosquito's sensors so they don't know you're there.
Dentists have recommended that a toothbrush be kept at least 6 feet away from a toilet to avoid airborne particles resulting from the flush.
No piece of paper can be folded more than 7 times.
Donkeys kill more people annually than plane crashes.
Oak trees do not produce acorns until they are fifty years of age or older.
The king of hearts is the only king without a mustache.

My Mother Taught Me...
Mother taught me TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE. "If you're going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning."
My mother taught me RELIGION. "You better pray that will come out of the carpet."
My mother taught me LOGIC. "Because I said so, that's why."
My mother taught me FORESIGHT. "Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident."
My mother taught me IRONY. "Keep crying, and I'll give you something to cry about."
My mother taught me about CONTORTIONISM. "Will you look at that dirt on the back of your neck!"
My mother taught me about HYPOCRISY. "If I told you once, I've told you a million times. Don't exaggerate!"
My mother taught me about ANTICIPATION. "Just wait until we get home."
My mother taught me HUMOR. "When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don't come running to me."

There is some really strange things on the internet. I suppose this isn't big news to most of you.
I heard on the radio that some celebrities made bras to auction for breast cancer awareness. One of the bras was made by Cheryl Crow out of guitar picks. The guy on the radio said you could go to the breast cancer awareness site and look at pictures of these unusual creations, and being a curious type, I did. The link is broken - figures. So I did a new search thinking maybe I could find a back door into the site, and low and behold, I found the strange site I'm talking about!
It's called The Ultimate Bra Page. Ever wonder how to care for your bra? Have you always been curious what size bra Jamie Lee Curtis or Nicole Kidman wears? How about bra art or a pattern to crochet a bikini top? Or maybe you want to see boobs the size of basketballs? Yeah, that's what I said. One picture shows this woman's bra with a basketball in the cup. Folks, I'm not kidding. But anyway, this site has everything you ever wanted to know about a bra. Honestly, that is not an exaggeration...it has it all. If you need to kill some time, go check it out.
http://www.geocities.com/ultimatebras
And you just have to look at the picture of that basketball in that woman's bra. She appears very proud of that.

Sunday night I recorded Dateline. Katie Couric interviewed the woman who, for the last 14 years, has been known to the public only as "The Central Park Jogger". Her true identity has been kept secret to protect her privacy. Last night she stepped forward.
Background
On April 19th 1989, she went jogging after work to release the days tension. Many people have never understood why a woman would choose to jog at 9pm alone in Central Park. When asked that question, she said:
“I remember running by myself, relishing the solitude and a feeling of ownership — it was my park,” she says. “I belonged in the city spread out before me — it was my city. I had conquered challenges at work and made my body strong. I could run and run and nothing and no one could harm me.”
She honestly didn't think she was in very much danger. Having run the same path 5 nights a week for a long time, she'd never encountered a problem. But on that night as she crossed into the only patch on the jogging path that ever worried her, she was attacked and dragged the length of a football field into a dark isolated area. A gang of boys brutally beat her with stones and sexually assaulted her. She was tied up and left for dead in a praying position. By sheer luck, two policemen in the area were alerted by two teens that there was a person tied up in the woods. When they found her, she was so badly beaten that she just looked like a bloody pulp of a person. Having lost 75% of her blood, she wasn't expected to live. Had she been found any later, she would have bled to death there in the woods. Her doctor was quoted as saying:
“She nearly bled out through sharply inflicted lacerations in her scalp,” says Dr. Robert Kurtz of the Surgical Intensive Care Unite at Metropolitan Hospital. “This was the blood that was on the ground. It was on her clothing. It was on the stretcher when she came in the hospital. I think she bled about as much as you can bleed and still be alive.”
With no ID on her, police had to wait for someone to call in looking for her. It didn't take very long to find out who she was. She worked as an investment banker and everyone she worked with knew she jogged. When the story that an unidentified woman had been found in Central Park the previous evening, and she didn't show up for work, her colleagues feared it was her. Finally one of the Senior colleague at the firm called the police and they asked him if she wore a ring. He didn't know but paged her secretary and asked her.
"Yes she has a ring that’s shaped like a little piece of rope tied in a knot." the secretary told him.
That ring identified her. Her family was called and they were told her chances of pulling thru were unlikely. If she did make it, she'd be a vegetable because her brain injury was so severe. But she did make it, and she's not a vegetable. She's 42 now and her name is Trisha Meili. Her story is amazing....she came back and made it when the odds were against her. To look at her you'd never know her face and head had been crushed or that there is a large dent on the side of her head under her hair where they took a piece of her skull to reconstruct her cheek bone.
Today she feels very blessed. She has some trouble with balance now and then and her memory isn't like it once was, but if that's as bad as it gets for her, I'd say she's more than lucky. There must have been a higher power looking after her because to cheat death like that is truly amazing.
Be careful everyone. We're not as safe as we think. If you run, jog or walk - take ID with you and make sure someone knows the route you take. Adults forget the rules because we're....well....adults and somehow that makes us feel more immune to things. But just think about what you would tell a kid, then follow those rules. Better to be safe than sorry.

I just spent a half hour trying to find a picture of a hot guy to post here for the ladies on a Friday afternoon. ALL could find was porn! I swear, I must have done 30 searches for hot guys, cute guys, sexy firefighters....all I got was porn. And it was all gay men porn. Whatever happened to just a picture of a hot guy in a pair of nice fitting jeans and no shirt? None to be found....they were all minus the the shirt and the jeans. Now don't get me wrong....I like a hot guy with no pants, but everything I found was pretty extreme. Sorry girls.
It was much easier to find one for Greg. Here you go...don't drool on the keyboard, honey.

Sorry - I've been busy and the ole blog has been neglected. I've have a rough day so far, so I thought I'd bake a break and give you all some food for thought.
I told myself I wasn't going to talk about the war, but I just have to say this and I'll try to keep my opinions to myself.
It's been hard for me to say why I support the idea of war, because after all, war is a terrible thing. The war isn't really going to change anything now, but it will change things in the future. The face of the middle east has to change. For so long when so many people think of the middle east, they think of evil people who have done terrible things - but I think that won't always be the case due, in large part, to this military action. We might not see the change now, but I bet the kids of today will see a change when they are older. Look at the past - World War II for example. Us American's like to think of this war as the "Good War", where pure evil was defeated and democracy triumphed. This is why I support it - so that when we look to the future, we see hope and the world as a better place to be.
*Steps off soapbox*
Have a nice day :)
